Park City roommate roundups may help newcomers find a place to live

December 10, 2010 - For those relocating to a new area, finding a rental property and living with new roommates can be a stressful experience.

In Park City, Utah, the Mountainlands Community Housing Trust (MCHT) and the Christian Center of Park City are joining efforts to make apartment hunting a little easier for seasonal workers in the ski resort town.

They are holding "Roommate Roundups", which are informal gatherings where prospective renters, those looking for a roommate and those looking for tenants can connect with one and other.

Scott Loomis, executive director of MCHT, said, "It's a good opportunity for them [renters] to meet people and feel out if it's going to work or not."

Even if there isn't a roommate roundup to attend, there are many things to consider when visiting a rental property and meeting the tenants. It may be a good idea to sit down and make a list of things prior to meeting that are essential for your new living quarters and cohabitants to have –to know what it is you're looking for.

When meeting the roommates, don't be afraid to ask them questions about their lifestyle and schedules, to make sure they're compatible with yours. Observe your surroundings carefully to see if the environment is one in which you would want to live.

No place is perfect, so expect to compromise a bit on your list – just make sure that they are compromises you can live with.
