Review of Move using AllStarMoving
I have had a wholly unpleasant experience during the entire move with this company. The first miscommunication came when I spoke to the salesperson. She asked that I sign an agreement via an email I had received. After I did this, she said that I did not sign the right one and was unable to specify what I had actually signed that was different from what I had to scan and email. We spent about 5 minutes trying to determine what sheet I had filled out – something that she probably should have done before calling me to waste my time. The day of my pickup, I had three gentlemen come over to the apartment. One introduced himself as the manager and there were two others who were not introduced and who walked right into the apartment, one of which went straight to the restroom, another later plopped down on the couch. I was then told that I was to pay additional square footage for my boxes because the weight surpassed the 2000 pounds allotted. I was not shown the weight on the scale and do not believe that my 47 items surpassed that. I had spoken to multiple moving companies who had estimated that the weight of the boxes I would be shipping was less than the 2000 pounds, which is usually the minimum. In addition, I was forcefully requested to pay a tip to each of the gentlemen that were at the apartment. I am unsure as to why this was necessary if I am paying a moving company to move my belongings. Are the movers not part of the company I am paying to move my belongings? The manager requested the tip for him and the movers, implying that whatever tip I provided would be the only money that the movers would be paid. This past week I was contacted for the delivery of my shipment. I was told that my belongings would arrive Wednesday or Thursday. I was not told, however, that the payment would need to be a Postal money order rather than a personal money order. The day before my shipment arrived the driver was rather upset about the fact that he thought he had told me while I was unaware. The Post Office required 24 hours for a money order to be made but since I did not know exactly what day my shipment would arrive, I purchased a personal money order, which takes a few minutes. I have still not gotten an answer as to what the difference is. The post office proposed it was because it's a government institution, however, the banks are also government backed. The day of the drop off, I received my boxes in a state of such ruin I am astounded that I had just paid a total of $1300 (not including the various tips) to a moving company that has treated my belongings so poorly. One of my plastic boxes was bent to the point that drawer will no longer work. While the total cost of this one item is not significant, the idea is that my belongings are to be transferred with no harm. I will submit a claim for this and any other belongings that were ruined from the move. Based on the destruction of the boxes, I am not convinced that the entire square footage that I paid for was actually utilized. When I peered inside of the truck I saw that all of the boxed were piled from floor to the very ceiling with no space in between anything. In addition, some of the stickers were missing from the boxes themselves, requiring the
movers to ask whether some boxes were mine or not. After all was completed I was then asked to fill out a survey about the movers before they left while they were watching. This seems that it is a bad idea due to the fact that if they did a poor job, the person writing in the survey would not want the movers to see their answers. In my case, it forced me to write a better opinion of the movers than what I actually believed.
