They quoted $1200 for 2500 lbs over the phone based on a discussion of what I had to move. I understand that there will likely be a variance in the weight discussed. What I didn't like was low balling the quote at one rate per lb (for instance $.45) and then charging a higher rate for the overage lbs. (.55). I feel this was deliberate.
They quoted me 2500 lbs and said I had 9000 lbs based on some formular the guy used based on space used in the truck. He would not let me check the numbers and did not leave a copy of how he calculated it. I seriously doubt my actual stuff weighed in at 9000 lbs.
I didn't move a whole household. I had everything packed except for 3 lamps so I expected to pay for those boxes and packing. However, they insisted my boxes had to be put in their boxes so they would take up less room on the truck. Then they proceeded to tape all my boxes even those they put in their boxes and of course they taped their boxes. I was charged over $400 for packing supplies.
I did not ask them to do this and felt it was not necessary. I saw it as another way to jack up the price. They did not remove all the boxes they packed and left it for me to do. Some were quite heavy and I had a difficult time removing them. In addition to this they wanted 1/2 the money up front which I was OK with. However, if I used a credit card there was an additional 6% fee and I could only use a credit card for the deposit.
They preferred a bank check or cash. At delivery they would only take cash. No bank check or credit card was allowed for the balance due. They arrived on time to load without water bottles which I had to provide. The delivery time was changed 3 times, twice because of scheduling and once because the truck broke down.
The delivery crew was much better than the load up crew as the person in charge spoke better English and had more interest in his job than the load up guy in charge. The crews did a good job but I don't like the company's practices and would not recommend them.
