U-Haul opens storage facilities for unwanted, reusable goods
January 7, 2010 - Individuals who are planning to relocate and have items that they do not wish to take to their new homes will now have another option to dispose of their unwanted goods.
U-Haul has announced the availability of self-storage reuse centers that will allow the company's customers to drop items that they cannot move in a local facility, where they may be picked up by individuals who wish to reuse them.
The company's customers and employees will be able to choose from items such as household goods, furniture, sporting equipment, bicycles and clothing that have been discarded by families and individuals who use the transportation and storage services.
Jason Turcotte, president of U-Haul Company of Western Arizona, said the program provides the corporation with an "opportunity to provide a service which will enhance the self-storage industry by improving the environment for generations to come."
To date, these facilities have been set up at U-Haul centers in Minnesota, Arizona and Texas.
Donations to similar organizations, such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army, may prove beneficial to individuals who are moving, as they can be used to earn a tax deduction.
