Spring organization tips for homeowners and renters

March 1, 2010 - As the weather begins to grow warmer, individuals who are planning on moving may want to consider reducing the clutter around their homes or launching a seasonal design and decorating project.

Representatives from Real Simple magazine suggest that homeowners and renters may be more likely to keep their spaces clean if they improve the area's appearance. For example, individuals who paint their closets bright colors or line shelves with wrapping paper could be more inclined to pay attention to this space.

To prevent closet clutter, the magazine suggests dividing clothes into three categories - often worn, hardly worn and never worn - and getting rid of items that fall into the latter group. After this sorting project is complete, organizers may consider hanging clothes with the hanger facing out so they can see which outfits are getting the most use.

Sorting clothes by function - that is, placing workout clothes or professional garments together - can also reduce clutter, as individuals will spend less time searching for particular items. Placing thicker or heavier items on the bottom of closets or shelving units can also improve the appearance of a storage area.
