Real estate service places short-term renters in luxury homes
May 5, 2010 - Memphis-based renters may be able to find a high-end home for a low rate through a company called Showhomes Memphis, The Commercial Reports.
The company screens renters and places them in luxury homes for sale, where they serve as so-called home managers. These individuals supply their own furniture and décor and are required to pay for utilities, renter's insurance and lawn care. Furthermore, they must agree to have the house ready for real estate agents to show on short notice.
However, they are able to reside in these properties for approximately one-third of the normal cost of living in a luxury home in the area. According to RentJungle.com, the average rent for a three-bedroom apartment in Memphis is $1,049 per month.
The program is intended to make homes looked more presentable, as market experts say that decorated houses are more likely to sell quickly than vacant properties.
"A lot of (prospective homebuyers) think the empty rooms look too small, say, for a king-size bed," Donna Northcutt, a local realtor, told the news source.
"They don't see the size of the room very well without furniture in it," she added.
