Major real estate website adds rental property listings

December 15, 2010 - For those in the market for a rental property, there is a new place to look for listings.

Reuters reports that Zillow.com, a real estate website, has extended its offerings to include the rental market. Anyone can list rental homes on its site, allowing users to be able to search for both rental properties as well as homes for sale.

The news agency cites a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive that found that 25 percent of people who plan to move in the next three years say that they will look for both homes for rent and homes for sale.

Spencer Rascoff, Zillow's chief operating officer, said, "In today's volatile housing market, many would-be sellers are opting to rent for a few years and ride out the market, while many home shoppers are just trying to decide whether to buy or rent."

One useful feature is that users are able to narrow their results by being able to search by monthly payment.

This addition may indicate that renting is still an attractive option that is being recognized by industry.
