Oregon home first of five new sustainable developments

July 29, 2010 - An award-winning designer has created a development that could attract relocating families who don't want to sacrifice luxury for sustainability.

The home at 5110 NE 17th Avenue in Portland, Oregon is the first of a planned five properties to be completed under an environmentally-friendly building plan called Earth Advantage Gold. Developer Andre Koshuba has won multiple awards for innovative home products and design, and his newest development accentuates eco-conscious elements in a luxurious setting. The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom property features floor-to-ceiling windows, energy-efficient appliances, and a low-maintenance floor plan situated in a prime Portland neighborhood.

Though the list price is $419,000, anyone who would be interested in moving into the home might be enticed by the fact that they would be eligible for a federal tax credit as well. The home includes a 2.4-kilowatt solar power system, which includes Bluetooth functionality that monitors electricity use and reports it back to the homeowner. The system could save a homeowner up to 30 percent on their energy bill.

Moving to an energy-efficient home is becoming a popular demand among consumers, who can further reduce their carbon footprint by packing their belongings with eco-friendly materials during the move.
