Moving tips for last-minute movers

July 3, 2012 - There are many reasons that homeowners may have to move last-minute, but while a planned relocation may be smoother, that doesn't mean last-minute movers should be stressed. By following these tips, moving unexpectedly doesn't have to be a tedious task.

You shouldn't underestimate the amount of supplies you need, including tape and moving boxes. Not getting enough the first time will have movers running back to the store, causing them to waste even more time. Getting extra is better than not purchasing enough, and most moving companies are willing to accept returns for unused materials with a receipt.

To make packing and unpacking less hectic, pack each room separately and label boxes with their destination in the new house. Marking items clearly or using different colored packing tape can make it easier for movers to get items to the right location and help save time once in the new home.

It is easier for important documents and paperwork to get lost in a last-minute move, so those moving should keep important records with them in a folder or other easily accessible box.
