How to survive having to move at the last-minute

July 24, 2012 - Ideally, those relocating to a new home will have planned out their move and allowed extra time to get last-minute tasks done. However, there are numerous reasons why homeowners may be forced to throw together a move in a hurry, such as moving for a job or needing to be close to family. By following these guidelines, moving at the last-minute doesn't have to be overly stressful or unorganized.

Instead of having to take multiple trips to a moving company to purchase additional moving supplies, those relocating are advised to purchase plenty of moving boxes, tape and packing supplies the first time and take back what isn't needed on the way out.

Staying organized is crucial when moving at the last minute, to avoid an even more stressful unpacking process. Marking boxes by room and destination can be helpful when moving, as they will be placed in the right location of the new house, making it simpler to unload.

To avoid skipping any important steps, those those moving should create a checklist of all tasks to be completed before leaving their former home for the last time. This includes packing up any items that were used leading up to the moving day, turning off utilities and returning any borrowed items to friends and family members.
