Moving for a new job can offer cost savings, improved quality of life

February 4, 2010 - Individuals who are struggling to a hold or find a job due to the economic downturn may want to consider relocating to an area where prospects are higher.

However, jobseekers with families should wait until they receive a job remotely before packing up, CNN reports.

The media outlet suggests these individuals research the top 20 markets in their industries and sending applications to those regions.

Family considerations may also narrow the search for a new home, as keeping the concerns of spouses and children in mind could make the moving process go more smoothly.

Once applicants receive job offers, they can evaluate how much their salaries will actually be worth in each particular region. For example, families who live on $140,000 in Philadelphia may be able to maintain their lifestyle on a $104,000 salary in Texas, according to the news source.

Income, property and sales tax information may also help these individuals decide whether moving to a particular region will be worth the relocation costs.

MarketWatch reports that 18.2 percent of individuals who landed a job in the second quarter of 2009 relocated for their new position.
