Courtney Love relocating to New York’s West Village

August 7, 2010 - Courtney Love is planning on moving to the West Village in New York, hoping to end her year-long residence at the Mercer Hotel in SoHo.

Love, the widow of Nirvana lead guitarist and singer Kurt Cobain, told the New York Daily News that she will first look to lease an apartment, but eventually wants to purchase a condo in the expensive neighborhood.

"I've spent so much money on the hotel. I could have bought a house," Love told the NY Daily News.

Love said she is looking for the kind of stability that homeowners enjoy, and that her financial situation has prevented her from accessing the kind of credit or loans she requires to purchase a house.

"I don't have a credit card. I use a debit card," Love told the news source. She said her accountant is working on remedying her finances. She was sued in 2009 by American Express for more than $300,000 that the credit company claims she owed.

The West Village is sometimes referred to as "Little Bohemia," and has been home to numerous artists, such as jazz saxophonist Billy Harper and the late photographer Diane Arbus.
