Study: International moving expected to increase this year

April 8, 2010 - Despite the fact that many companies made fewer overseas job offers last year, new research suggests that these types of assignments are expected to increase in 2010.

A new study from Brookfield Global Relocation Services reveals that 46 percent of companies surveyed said that they decreased the number of international assignments they awarded last year. These findings showed the lowest numbers in the company's 15-year history.

However, a total of 44 percent of these organizations expect to increase their overseas job offerings in the coming months, and the same percentage believes the number of international assignments will stay the same this year.

The researchers also found that only 8 percent of employees who were sent to work in other countries were new hires, which may indicate that individuals who have been with their organizations for several years may soon require the services of an international shipping company.

Rick Schwartz, president of Brookfield Global Relocation Services, said that "while the economy clearly remains a factor in 2010," these findings reveal "a growing sense of optimism appears to have taken root."
