October 24, 2011 - The home of late writer and director John Hughes has hit the real estate market in Lake Forrest, Illinois, according to Curbed.
Hughes, who died of a heart attack in 2009 at the age of 59, gained prominence as a writer and director in the 1980s. He is perhaps most famous for depicting the lives of disenchanted Illinois teenagers in classics including "The Breakfast Club" and "Pretty in Pink." The movie mogul also helped launch the careers of stars like Molly Ringwald and the rest of her "Brat Pack" cohorts. Hughes' widow Nancy is making their home available to homebuyers for $5.8 million, the source explains.
Built in 1930, the 21-room, 11,233-square-foot English country-style mansion sits on 2.1 acres of land. The three-story home also has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms and four half bathrooms. The space boasts a heated garage, to keep the homeowner's luxury cars toasty during the long Illinois winters, and a swimming pool for residents to enjoy during warmer months, said Coldwell Banker, the real estate agency handling the sale.
The home also has a bevy of celebrity-worthy features for the new owners to enjoy after moving day, including a state-of-the-art media room and six fireplaces, the Chicago Tribune reports.
