January 24, 2012 - Sources report that President Gerald Ford's former home in Rancho Mirage, California, is ready for movers. The home has been listed at $1.699 million with a separate Secret Service guard shack available for $509,000.The estate was designed by architect Welton Becket, who worked on the Capitol Records Building and multiple City Halls in Southern California. The Fords moved into the newly-built home in 1979 after purchasing it from former Ambassador Leonard Firestone. President Ford passed away in 2006 and his wife Betty Ford died just last year.The home is located in the Thunderbird Country Club and offers 6,316 square feet of living space including six bedrooms, four bathrooms and 3 half bathrooms. The house sits on 1.37 acres of land and overlooks the 13th fairway in the gated neighborhood. In addition to golf course views, the home has a private swimming pool and two offices.The Los Angeles Times reports that in addition to the listed real estate, the buyer has the option to purchase the family's furnishings.
