Norman Mailer's Brooklyn Heights apartment on the market

May 3, 2011 - The late Norman Mailer's apartment was put up for sale by his nine children for $2.5 million recently, according to The New York Times.

Designed to help the author conquer his fear of heights, this top-floor-walk-up resembles the inside of a ship and a jungle gym all at once. According to the newspaper, the interior has galleys, ladders and comes complete with a crow's nest that served as Mailer's office.

The Atlantic Wire reports that the home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, not to mention a view of the New York City skyline.

Michael Mailer, Norman's son, has been showing the home to potential buyers, and tells the news source that he has been renting the space from the family since his father's sixth wife, Norris Church, passed away.

"I would have loved to have rented it from the family forever," Mailer told The New York Times. "But with nine kids, selling is the fairest way of dealing with this asset."

Potential homebuyers may need a crew of gymnasts to act as their moving company, but living in such an historic and original home may be well worth the effort.
