Website to host Roommate of the Year contest

April 26, 2010 - In order to recognize the value of good roommates, Apartments.com has opened the application process for its second annual Roommate of the Year contest.

Individuals who feel that they are easy to live with can enter the competition by submitting an original video. Company officials say that the contest is intended to showcase the qualifications that compose a great roommate.

According to a recent survey hosted by the website, approximately 60 percent of renters currently live with a roommate or plan on moving in with one. However, a total of 60 percent of individuals who have roommates said they do not plan on living with the same person when they move.

"This contest allows people to explore the deeper meanings of 'roommate' and express their vision in a fun and creative manner," said Tammy Kotula, a public relations and promotions manager for Apartments.com.

A panel of judges will reward the individuals they feel would make the best roommate with one year of free rent as well as a $10,000 cash prize. June 14 is the deadline for qualified candidates to submit their videos.
