Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Bellingham, Washington

Bellingham, Washington is home to over 80,000 residents, a growth of 19.2 percent since 2000 (according to statistics published in 2009), who live in an area of close to 30 square miles. Those moving to Bellingham will discover a picturesque city on the Pacific Ocean, which has Whatcom Creek running through its center, is the southern terminus of the ferry which plies the Alaska Marine Highway System.

Seattle is 90 miles to the south and Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada, is 52 miles to the north. The nearest towns to Bellingham are Marietta-Alderwood and Geneva, both less than two miles away; and Sudden Valley, Ferndale, Lummi Reservation and Lummi Island all less than three miles distant.

Economy:
Mining, manufacturing and construction were historically the main employment opportunities in Bellingham, but these have declined over the last 30 years and, at present, the service industry has taken economic precedence. Agriculture also adds to the city’s coffers.

The waterfront section of Bellingham, traditionally the industrial heart of the city, has great potential for development and local government is planning for a residential area to be built featuring parks and walkways, business and shopping areas and a light industrial zone. Investment in the general infrastructure of the city is also planned to encourage tourism to the city.

The main employers at present in Bellingham are Western Washington University, the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and local government.

Tourism:
The natural beauty of the area is a magnet for tourists who enjoy winter sports such as skiing, ice skating and snowboarding. During the warmer months, whale watching draws in many visitors. Outdoor enthusiasts will delight in hiking along the many trails and will also explore the historic Chuckanut Drive, Lake Padden Park, Larrabee State Park, Whatcom Falls Park and Nooksack Falls.
The American Museum of Radio and Electricity and Mindport Science and Art Museum are also of interest.

History:
The Nooksack Lummi and Coast Salish Native Americans were the original inhabitants of the land where Bellingham is situated. In 1792 Captain George Vancouver arrived in what was to be named Bellingham Bay and, all through the 1800s settlers arrived. By 1904 Bellingham had been incorporated as a result of a vote to amalgamate four small settlement towns.

The history of Bellingham is well preserved to this day with many period buildings still on show in the downtown sector of the city, as well as in the historic part of Fairhaven and other neighborhoods around the city.

Interesting Fact:
