Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Puyallup, Washington

Puyallup, Washington is named after a Native American tribe who populated the area when the first settlers arrived; and translates into ‘the generous people.’Those moving to Puyallup will also discover that is located on the banks of the Puyallup River estuary and the foothills of the volcanic Mount Rainier.

Economy:
The early economy of Puyallup was based solely on agriculture, primarily because of the extremely fertile volcanic soil; and farming still plays its part in the cities finances to this day, specifically the growing of daffodils for export and vegetables.

The work force of Puyallup is almost equally divided into those who work in the city and those who work outside the city. For those working in the city, the main sources of employment are agriculture, the health care system based at the renovated and expanded Good Samaritan Hospital, retail outlets (Puyallup has the fifth largest shopping mall in the region) and light industry. The events center in the city’s fairgrounds has recently been promoted as a conference, convention and trade show venue, attracting much business.

Tourism:
Puyallup is famous for its many stores selling antiques which are all located on Meridian Street, the city’s main street. Its shopping area downtown is old fashioned, focusing on the city’s heritage. Also to be found in the downtown area are notable historic buildings, such as Ezra Meeker’s House, home to one of Puyallup’s founding fathers. The center of the town is called Pioneer Park and has a new library, a beautiful park, wonderful old trees and green walkways. The start of the Pierce County Foothills Trail is to be found in the south east of Puyallup.

The largest fair in the state of Washington, which attracts more than a million visitors, is held annually in Puyallup. The annual Daffodil Parade is another of Puyallup’s attractions worth seeing.

History:
The Puyallup tribe of Native Americans were the original inhabitants of the region, who lived there up until the 1840s. Thereafter settlers from Europe arrived to colonize the area and began farming the land. The area grew rapidly and by 1890 the town of Puyallup was incorporated as a city.

With the outbreak of World War II, the land that is today the Puyallup Fairgrounds was used as a temporary internment camp for over 7,000 Japanese Americans and was named Camp Harmony.
