Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Arlington, Virginia

“Virginia is for Lovers,” as the famous state motto says, and Arlington is a place for the rich and single, according to the press. It’s a home to 212,000 people in the Commonwealth of Virginia and lies directly across the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., which is connected to Arlington by several highways, roads and tunnels. Arlington, Virginia is an important city as it is home to The Pentagon, the U.S. Department of Defense headquarters, as well as the site for the famous Arlington National Cemetery where many of the heroes of many of the nation’s wars are buried. The region of Arlington was once part of the District of Columbia until it returned to the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1847. Even though the Arlington County is officially a part of Virginia, for statistical purposes, the U.S. Census Bureau includes it with the city of the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Arlington County is widely known for its lavish occupants who really know how to live. Arlington has been named by American Podiatric Medical Association as one of the most “walkable” cities in the nation, one of the most educated by CNN Money with 35.7 percent of residents having earned their graduate degrees, among 20 American counties with the highest median household incomes, one of the safest cities to go through a recession by Business Week, and Arlington ranks as the second in the country of “Best Places for the Rich and Single” by CNN Money. Since 2000 to 2010, there has been a population increase by 12 percent; and with all of the areas amenities it’s no wonder why more and more people are moving to Arlington.

Economy:
Arlington, Virginia has one of the most consistently low unemployment rates of any locale of Virginia. It was 4.2 percent in August 2009, which gives you an idea, compared to the double digits we were seeing about the nation at that time last year. The median income for a household in Arlington on average is around $94,000. Individuals do great in Arlington and are pushed by government efforts in the area. Companies that are headquartered in Arlington and continue to thrive include AES Corporation, Alcade and Fay, CACI, Corporate Executive Board, USA and Rosetta Stone. Development projects that support local workers and businesses also thrive in Arlington. These efforts draw people into the city making it a successful time to own Arlington moving companies.

History:
Arlington, Virginia’s history has always been rich and wondrous. Now is the time to visit to see the sights that have mattered in to past of the city. Arlington County started off as the British Colony of Virginia. Many land grants were split and the land was known as Northern Virginia on numerous occasions. The Colony of Virginia was given to the new U.S. government and the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1846. It was known as Alexandria City and Alexandria County until 1920. The County portion was renamed Arlington County later on. Arlington has always maintained itself to be a great place to build neighborhoods, homes and metropolitan edifices. Today, the U.S. Government has built buildings all over the city and provides about 37 percent of the county’s jobs.

• The Pentagon – located in Arlington, Virginia – is the biggest building in the world—to give you an idea, it has six zip codes all by itself. To walk around the Pentagon, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes. To get to any office in the building from another office takes about seven minutes.
