Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

San Angelo, Texas

Offering easy access to medical care, recreation, retail shopping choices, cultural activities and real estate, San Angelo provides the perfect setting to enjoy an excellent quality of life. Considered one of the best small cities for small business, those moving to San Angelo will discover a high quality of life that attracts and keeps people in the community. The city  also boasts a booming economy, great housing options and plenty of local attractions to keep you on your toes.

History:
With the end of America's civil war, thousands of settlers began moving west in search of their fortunes. Realizing its need to protect these citizens from hostile threats, the government established forts on the frontier. One such placement, Fort Concho, was made in 1867 at the confluence of three rivers in West Central Texas. The fort at different times was home to mounted cavalry, infantry, and the famous Black Cavalry whose members were respectfully called "Buffalo Soldiers" by the Native Americans in the area. As the village grew into a community, it became a trade center for the many farmers and ranchers who had settled in the area. By 1889, the hostilities had ended and the soldiers abandoned Fort Concho. However, with the economic base of agriculture and trade, the community later renamed "San Angelo" continued to grow as it moved into the 20th century. Weather and climate also played an important role in San Angelo's early development. When tuberculosis became widespread in the first half of this century, patients from all over the nation were sent to a treatment center near San Angelo. Our dry climate proved to be an effective healing factor, and the medical center reputation and the services we now enjoy can be attributed to this role played in the early 1900's. The military returned to San Angelo during World War II, when an Army Air Corps training base was established in the city. The discovery of oil and gas, the influx of light manufacturing, the initial development of a communications center, the establishment and growth of Angelo State University, and the growth of the medical community provided diversification to a growing community. Today, this city of 90,000 is the trade and services hub of a 13 county area, supported by agriculture, manufacturing, education, business and health services, military, tourism and retirement.

Economy:
San Angelo has consistently been ranked by many publications and rankings as one of the best small cities for business. In 2009, CNN Money ranked San Angelo as one of the best cities to launch a small business. The telecommunication industry is a very strong employer in San Angelo. Sitel has its largest call center in the world located in San Angelo. In addition, Verizon, DCS, a debt recovery corporation and Blue Cross all employ over 1,000 employees. The manufacturing industry has seen hits to city since the 1990s; however, many large employers remain, including Ethicon a division of Johnson & Johnson, Conner Steel and Hirschfield Steel and Martifer, a Portuguese conglomerate and wind-turbine tower manufacturing plant. The agricultural industry in San Angelo remains strong. San Angelo’s Producer’s Livestock Auction is the nation’s largest for sheep and lambs, and is among the top five in the nation for cattle auctions. Although most agricultural work is done outside the city, thousands of employees work in the cattle, lamb  and meat processing industries, and many more work in agriculture supporting roles inside the city. Two agricultural research centers are located in San Angelo. There are several large institutional employers in the city including Shannon Medical Center, Angelo State University and Goodfellow Air Force Base.

Tourism:
San Angelo's weather allows residents and visitors to enjoy a year-round variety of recreational activities. The summer temperatures are moderated by a trip to any of the three lakes that border the city limits. Boating, fishing, and water skiing are popular summer sports. If you have children, you will find a variety of activities for them as well. Fall and winter provide some of the best deer, turkey and quail hunting in Texas. For those that enjoy a sideline seat for their sports enjoyment, college football and basketball kick off in the fall and winter with the Angelo State University Rams. Spring and summer professional sports include rodeo at the Stock Show and Rodeo, and the San Angelo Colts with the Central Baseball League and the San Angelo Stampede (arena football). In addition, San Angelo provides a wide variety of cultural events and activities for its citizens. A typical season includes comedy, musicals and drama. Angelo State University theater is another excellent source for both stage and dinner theater performances. The San Angelo Symphony performs in the restored City Auditorium. The new San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is a joint venture between San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts and Angelo State University and is state of the arts.
