Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Fort Worth, Texas

Fort Worth was founded as a military camp in 1849. The city grew into a bustling town when it became a stop along the Chisholm Trail. Fort Worth became the heart of cattle drives and the ranching industry. Today, the city is portrayed as old-fashioned and compared with its neighbor, Dallas. Known as cowtown, for its rugged roots, Fort Worth continues to celebrate its vibrant Western heritage and bills itself as "Where the West Begins." With a vibrant cultural life, continuing development, and expanding economy in high tech industries, it’s no wonder Partners for Livable Communities voted Fort Worth as one of America's Most Livable Large Cities and it's no wonder why more and more people are moving to Fort Worth.

History:
In the 1840s, thousands of Americans from the East Coast were migrating westward. As ranchers and settlers from the Eastern states made their way into the city, Native Americans were driven from the North Texas frontier. During the 1860s, Fort Worth suffered the effects of the Civil War. The population dropped to as few as 175, and money, food and supply shortages troubled residents. Gradually, however, the town began to revitalize. And in 1876, the Texas and Pacific Railway arrived causing a bang and transformed the Fort Worth Stockyards into a leader in the cattle industry and wholesale trade. By 1900, most of the dance halls and gamblers were gone; cheap gambling and prostitution was now the fad. In 1919, martial law was brought to bear against prostitutes and barkeepers. Fines and rigid jail sentences deterred criminal activities. In 1917, oil was discovered in about 90 miles west of Fort Worth. The gusher meant another population explosion for the city. The opening of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in the mid-1970s began a new era in aviation. At the time it construction, the airport was the largest in the world.

Economy:
Fort Worth, Texas has traditionally been a diverse hub of manufacturing, and a city that has demonstrated strong economic growth since the 1980s. Major employers in the area are American Airlines, Radio Shack Corporation, Pier 1 Imports and Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Budding economic sectors include semiconductor manufacturing, corporate offices, distribution and communications equipment manufacturing. Between 1990 and 1996, defense downsizing resulted in the loss of nearly 45,000 jobs in the city. That development set Fort Worth's economic diversification effort into action. A plan was adopted called "Strategy 2000, Diversifying Fort Worth's Future," which had as its goal the creation of a diverse, less defense-dependent economy supported by business development, emerging technologies and a world-class workforce. Tourism is also an important contributor to the city’s economy, with 8.5 million visitors contributing over $1 billion dollars annually.

Tourism:
Began your adventure at the distinguished Cultural District just west of downtown houses some of the finest art in the world, including works by contemporary artists like Andy Warhol, and Western artists such as Remington and Russell. Next, explore another of Fort Worth's major visitor districts, Sundance Square; these stalwarts deliver some of the finest concerts, operas and other arts performances west of the Mississippi. Then, head over to the city's third major attractions area, the historic Stockyards District. Walk the wooden sidewalks along western wear shops, settle in for real Texas barbecue and be sure to catch either the morning or afternoon run of the world's only “twice-daily” cattle drive, with giant Texas Longhorns making their way down Exchange Street. Finally, on weekends, enjoy the Stockyards' legendary rodeo, and while you are in the area, do not miss the opportunity to slip into the world's largest honky-tonk for a quick game of pool or take part in a free dance lesson.
