Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Mission, Texas

Mission, Texas is more than an ideal setting for business, it truly is a wonderful place to live. Whether you are considering relocating or searching for that perfect place to call home, Mission is the right place for you and your family. The Mission area is considered one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. Those moving to Mission will find an area working to upgrade and fortify its neighborhoods, streets, parks, and traffic systems in efforts to keep a healthy and thriving community with an exceptional quality of life.

History:
Written records demonstrate that the site known as La Lomita was granted to Captain Conway and J.W. Hoit, who established the Rancho La Lomita Land Company. Between 1906 and 1908, most of the area’s activities occurred around the La Lomita area. In 1908, the Missouri Pacific Railroad established a railway station near the center of the new development, four miles north of the mission. That same year, the city of Mission, Texas was founded. Since 1908, the city of Mission has grown from a railroad stop to a thriving city with a population approaching 70,000. It was in this area that citrus was first planted in the Rio Grande Valley. The citrus industry is now a multimillion-dollar business, which is celebrated annually with a gala Citrus Fiesta. Mission was the childhood home of longtime Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry, the hometown of Mexican Baseball Hall of Famer Leo “Najo” Alaniz and was a second home to Governor Allan Shivers during the 1950s. The Mission area is immortalized in Larry McMurtry’s novel and miniseries Lonesome Dove. The historic La Lomita Mission still stands and is visited regularly each year by tourists and residents, and the multimillion-dollar citrus industry is celebrated annually with the gala Texas Citrus Fiesta, attracting participants from both sides of the Rio Grande. Mission is a city that is quickly growing but that has not forgotten its vibrant and important history.

Economy:
Ranked as the fourth fastest growing metropolitan area in the U.S., the Mission/McAllen MSA has caused an increase in all industries. The growth of maquiladoras in Reynosa, Mexico, our southern neighbor, has spurred industrial growth on the U.S. side. Citrus and other agricultural products have always played a large role in our economy. Tourism is also strong in the community. The friendly climate and historical ambiance have been major draws for the “Winter Texans.” During the winter months, Mission’s population surges by over 25,000 as these visitors stay to enjoy all the amenities offered in the Mission area. Their impact in terms of spending is significant. Mission is equipped with a plentiful and productive labor force that is ready and willing to work in a variety of industries. Mission benefits from a plentiful labor force that is provided by a fast-growing residential population. In addition, businesses in Mission take advantage of the low-cost labor on both sides of the Texas-Mexico Border.

Tourism:
Mission has a variety of recreational facilities available to its citizens including public parks, public and private golf courses, tennis courts, and swimming pools. For the avid outdoorsman, there are plenty excellent fishing and hunting opportunities. Check out the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. This 588-acre subtropical woodland is home to lots of birds and several endangered species: great for bird watching and wildlife viewing. Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park has over six hundred acres set aside to preserve native flora and fauna along the banks of the Rio Grande. Facilities include primitive camping sites, a boat ramp, an open group shelter, a playground, a picnicking area and a bird observation blinds. Grab your binoculars and head to the World Birding Center. There you will find a network of nine spectacular bird watching sites along 120 miles of scenic road. Next, the National Butterfly Center provides extensive outdoor gardens of native nectar plants and specific caterpillar host plants as well as natural habitats to attract large numbers of wild butterflies, and conserve rare native butterflies. The 100-acre outdoor park also has facilities such as a visitor center, garden café and gift shop. Finally, the Mission Historical Museum offers a glimpse into the history of the city of Mission. Opened in 2002 as a heritage center for Mission and the surrounding areas, the museum highlights exhibits, collections and many educational programs centered on images and artifacts reflecting the city's history.
