Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

El Paso, Texas

El Paso is located at the western tip of Texas. It is the largest international metroplex in the world, and effortlessly blends cultures and traditions. The city’s warm, sunny climate and Franklin Mountains provide the backdrop of a youthful, culturally diverse population that shares a rich heritage that embraces the past. El Paso residents enjoy the luxury of big city facilities without big city hassle. Affordable housing, low crime rates and minimal traffic congestion attract those searching for a high quality of life -- making moving to El Paso an excellent choice.

History:
El Paso was originally a part of Mexico. However, Sam Houston would later claim all of the land above the Rio Grande. During the Civil War, Texas, like many other Southern states, seceded from the Union in 1861. Following the war, the town's population began to grow. With the arrival of the Southern Pacific, Topeka and Santa Fe railroads, the population blossomed. During the Wild West era, El Paso was dubbed the "Gunfight Capital of the World" thanks to the city’s great remoteness and lawlessness. El Paso hired town marshals with rough reputations, however, prostitution and gambling thrived until World War I. Beginning in the 1920s and continuing into the 1930s, El Paso became the birthplace of several locally and nationally known businesses and events. Additionally, the college football Sun Bowl has been held in El Paso since 1936. From World War II until the 1980s, El Paso boomed into a expansive city with the construction of several major structures, including the University of Texas at El Paso and Fort Bliss, a major US Army installation.

Economy:
El Paso, Texas is a significant entry point to the US from Mexico. Once a major copper refining area, chief manufacturing industries in El Paso today include food production, electronic and medical equipment, construction materials and plastics. Cotton, vegetables, fruit and pecans are also produced in the city. With El Paso's attractive climate and natural beauty, tourism has emerged as a booming industry. Education also plays a significant role in El Paso's economy. El Paso's three large school districts are among the largest employers in the area, employing over 19,000 people combined. The military installation of Fort Bliss is a major contributor to El Paso's economy. Fort Bliss began as a Calvary post in 1848. Today, Fort Bliss is the site of the United States Army's Air Defense Center and produces roughly $80 million in products and services every year. In addition, call center operations make up seven of the top 10 business employers in El Paso.

Tourism:
The high mountains cutting through the heart of the city, offer a theatrical setting for the City of El Paso. Visitors and residents alike can ride the Wyler Aerial Tramway to Ranger Peak to get a panoramic view of the city, or drive along Transmountain Road that cuts right through the Franklin Mountains. Next, enjoy a picnic in the largest urban park in the US Franklin Mountains State Park, or for outdoor explorers, there is also hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing nearly any time of year. El Paso offers fun for families of any size. Kids can count the whiskers on the tigers in the cool park environment of the El Paso Zoo. Spend a Sunday, biking along the Rio Grande or feed baby goat at the Licon Dairy petting farm. Western Playland provides rides and roller coasters under the city’s warm sun every day of the year. With over 300 sunny days a year, golf courses in El Paso are available during almost every season. Visit any one of the courses to enjoy a breathtaking view of El Paso and its surrounding areas. Finally, tour one El Paso’s many wineries, and raise your glasses to new opportunity.
