Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Mesquite, Texas

When moving to Mesquite, Texas, you will discover a city with excellent employment prospects, great shopping and a fine schooling system.

Economy:
It is all about location, location, and location. The city of Mesquite is strategically placed for business and commerce, thanks to the network of interstate highways in the area and its role as a hub for the Union Pacific Railroad system. Add a rapidly expanding corporate-grade airport facility and you have the recipe for ongoing success. Not so many years ago, Mesquite was little more than an outlying suburb of Dallas, today it is a modern metropolis in its own right. The city is home to computer game producer, idSoftware, (famous for creating the games “Doom” and “Quake”) accommodates a major repair center for Microsoft products and incorporates an important UPS package center, employing around 3,000 residents too. Other major employers include the Dallas Regional Medical Center and The City of Mesquite Municipality.

History:
An engineer from Texas & Pacific Railway who purchased land along the rail network outside Dallas founded Mesquite in May 1873, and it became incorporated fourteen years later. Its initial role as a farming community continued well into the early 20th Century, as farmers produced cotton, hay, corn and sugar for shipping by railroad, and refining and packaging in other centers. The suburban boom began in earnest after World War 2, as the City’s population climbed from 1,700 in 1950 to 27,500 in 1960, a figure that had doubled again by 1970. The year 1958 marked the arrival of the now-prestigious Mesquite Championship Rodeo. Big Town Mall opened in 1959 and became the first enclosed shopping mall in the Southwest. The early 1970s saw the arrival of a freeway network that was to provide rapid links from Mesquite to neighboring Garland to the north, and Balch Springs to the south. A new Championship Rodeo opened in 1986 and has seen a convention center, exhibition hall and hotel complex added to it more recently. Mesquite has continued to develop consistently since then, and has become a great place in which to live and work.

Tourism:
The city of Mesquite lies just east of Dallas in the north central region of Texas. You will find plenty of sunshine on offer with around 220 clear sunny days each year, and pronounced seasons. Average annual rainfall is around 40 inches. So, armed with this knowledge about the very pleasant climate, why not start planning your visit, or indeed move to Mesquite right away. There is so much to take in. The Mesquite Championship and Rodeo just has to be one of the main attractions in this energetic City. The event has been running for more than 50 years and entices the entire family. Just imagine events like bull or bronco riding, barrel racing and, of course, the main feature, the Rodeo itself. If that proves too much for you, then the Mesquite Arts Center has a variety of cultural activities on show. Looking for something historic? Try visiting The Florence Ranch Homestead, originally established in 1873 as a railroad depot, and today a truly unique example of early pioneering ranching, with some very interesting rural Texas architecture on show.
