Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Dallas, Texas

The ultramodern and sophisticated city of Dallas, Texas attracts worldwide travelers and welcomes new residence with hospitable arms. Centrally located within a four-hour flight from most North American destinations, Dallas is the perfect place for those looking to enjoy a stable economy and stylish communities. The city’s moderate weather, year-round sports and true Southern hospitality make Dallas an extraordinary place. The city’s revolutionary spirit is felt within the city’s streets, and the philanthropic contributions from its residents enrich the community and create a desirable quality of life for those moving to Dallas.

History:
Dallas was incorporated in 1841. At the time, the city encompassed 640 acres of land, a courthouse square and 20 streets. Gradually, and with some difficulty, the young city progressed. In early 1907, fashion and stylish living were redefined when Neiman Marcus opened in downtown Dallas, and in 1930, C.M. "Dad" Joiner struck oil 100 miles east of Dallas, both events having significant effect on the city’s growth. With the discovery and development of the East Texas Oil Field, Dallas became an axis for oil-related activity. Commerce and industry have followed suit, adding to the city’s success and development. The 1960s was a time of turmoil in many US cities, and Dallas was no different. A low point in Dallas history came on Nov. 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The event cast the city in an awful light, as people throughout the world asked, "What kind of place is Dallas?" the city would recover. And in the late 1980s, Fortune magazine named Dallas/Fort Worth the No. 1 Business Center in the Land. The city also gained international attention as a leading force in the convention and tourism industry. Important to this effort was the rejuvenation of downtown Dallas as a major center for entertainment and other pursuits.

Economy:
Dallas boasts a largely diverse business environment, with technological industries taking the lead. Major industries include defense, information technology and data, financial services, telecommunications and processing. According to the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is responsible for an estimated 43 percent of the state's high-tech workers. Additional, 13 privately held companies with at least $1 billion in annual revenue are headquartered in the city. Among the 19 Fortune 500 companies headquartered are Dean Foods, ExxonMobil, Southwest Airlines, Neiman Marcus and Texas Instruments. Dubbed the "Silicon Prairie," Dallas is among the nation's leading employment hubs for high technology. In addition, the city is also known as a center for telecommunications manufacturing employment in the U.S. With all of these exciting employment opportunities, its no wonder so many Dallas moving companies are so busy.

Tourism:
Whether you are a visitor or a native, an assortment of cultural and entertainment districts offer visitors an exciting variety of activities. Begin your expedition with a stroll through the Dallas Arts District and discover some of the finest architecture in the world. Sports fans will be happy to hear that Dallas is the only city in the Southwest that is home to five professional sports teams including the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. For the history buffs, learn something new at the Sixth Floor Museum or one of Fair Park’s numerous museums. For those in search of a little shopping, Dallas has some of the country’s greatest shopping venues including the world-renowned NorthPark Center. And with over 8,000 restaurants, Dallas has something delicious for every palate. With more than $12 billion in development underway in the urban core and throughout Dallas, expect additional stellar dining, arts, shopping, culture and entertainment options each year. Looking for family fun? Head over to Six Flags Over Texas Hurricane Harbor. The largest water park in the Southwest offers performances and nearly 100 rides, including the world’s No. 1-rated wooden roller coaster. Finally, the Dallas World Aquarium features 80,000 gallons of saltwater exhibits including sharks, stingrays and hundreds of reef fish presented in living coral reef ecosystems.
