Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Memphis, Tennessee

Located overlooking the Mississippi River, Memphis is home to more than a million residents and offers something to everyone. Residents of Memphis enjoy a moderately low cost of living, the purest water supply in the U.S., a temperate climate and a hospitable atmosphere. A wide range of affordable housing exists to suit all lifestyles -such as high-rise apartments and renovated downtown lofts to endless single-family homes in the area’s numerous metropolitan, suburban and rural neighborhoods. Whatever you are seeking, you are sure to find it when moving to Memphis.

History:
The city of Memphis was founded in 1819. The city grew quickly, becoming known as the cotton capital of the world. Regrettably, plantation owners with slave labor operated the prosperous economy. During the Civil War both the Union and Confederacy recognized the value of Memphis’ geographic location. At first Memphis was a military supply depository for the Confederacy and later became Union headquarters for General Grant. After the war, many former slaves returned to the city to live as free citizens. Dark days followed the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the balcony of the Lorraine Hotel on April 4, 1968, but Memphis persevered. And today the city is  recognized as an outstanding example of African American civic leadership. Memphis is home of FedEx cargo airline, still leads the world cotton market and is a manufacturing hub for textiles. The city is often named to the “Best Metro Areas for Business” lists, and is a five-time winner of the nation’s Cleanest City Awards.

Economy:
At the heart of a major distribution system, Memphis operates from an extensive economic base as it continues to expand employment opportunities. Historically, a trading center for cotton and hardwood, the city is the command center for major manufacturing, services and other business operations. The city is home to three Fortune 500 company headquarters, including FedEx and AutoZone. Today, FedEx averages more than 6 million shipments per day, and serves more than 220 countries and territories. AutoZone is now a leading auto parts retailer, with more than 3,400 stores nationwide. Services centered in Memphis include banking and finance, real estate and a restaurant chain. Science and technology business are also well represented in the city. Memphis is significant in other areas of agribusiness. The city has long been established as a prime marketing hub for hardwood, as well as wood and paper products. With all of these exciting job opportunities, it's no wonder why Memphis moving companies are so busy.

Tourism:
Start your exploration at the famed Graceland. Known as the place that put Memphis on the map, Graceland is the 14-acre estate of Elvis toured by thousands of visitors every year.  Next, take a walk down Blue Street—also known as Beale Street—where you will be walking down a major historical landmark.  If you love zoos and parks, then enjoy the Memphis Zoo.  Experience five hundred species of animals and over 3,000 individual animals.  There are three zones in the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium.  Enjoy the aquarium, the playful penguins, and the farm.  After a day at the zoo, plan on a trip to Mud Island.  Mud Island has 5,000 seats ascending the bank of the island.  The amphitheater hosts concerts and fun events there year-round.  If you love the outdoors and want more things to put on your itinerary, make sure you go to the Memphis Botanic Garden.  This stunning garden has over 20 specialty gardens that cover 96 acres. The Japanese Gardens is a favorite of many and includes ponds with goldfish and miniature bridges.
