Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

A Moving Around

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville is the capital and the second most populated city in Tennessee, after Memphis. Known around the U.S. as the “Country Music Capital,” this amazing city is located on the Cumberland River in Davidson County, and is a major center for the music, health care, publishing and transportation industries. Nashville has a consolidated city-county government, which includes seven smaller municipalities in a two-tier system. A small town city, those relocating to Nashville will discover a big city appeal, as well as employment opportunities.

History:
In 1796, Tennessee was admitted to the union. In 1824, the music publishing industry began with the publication of "Western Harmony," a book of hymns and sing-a-longs. Unknown at the time, the book helped shape Nashville as "Music City.” Nashville was named the permanent capital of Tennessee in 1843. And in 1845 ushered in the construction of the state capitol building, and the death of Andrew Jackson. The last decade of the 19th century proved to be an volatile one for many industries. The mid-1940s and early-1950s saw a new movement beginning in the music world. The Opry moved downtown to the Ryman and bestowed upon the Ryman its most affectionate nickname, "the Mother Church of Country Music." Music Row began to take shape with the construction of recording studios and record labels. Here the Nashville Sound was crafted and performers like Elvis, Dolly Parton and the Everly Brothers recorded their now famous hits.

Economy:
The city’s strength truly rests on its economic diversity. The city is home to private and public business and industry, where residents find work in banks, hospitals, government offices or on assembly lines. The area has benefited from a low unemployment rate, consistent job growth and an expansion of the labor force. Although the city's economy is not dependent on one area of production, Nashville is a leader in finance and insurance, health care, transportation technology, music and entertainment, publishing, tourism and conventions. Health care is one of Nashville's top industries and the city is known as the country’s health care hub. Of all of the products manufactured in the city, music makes Nashville most famous. The local recording industry and its offshoots have not only brought worldwide recognition to what was once a sedate southern city, but has also pumped billions of dollars into the local economy, created a thriving entertainment business scene ranked behind only New York and Los Angeles. Tourism is one of Tennessee's biggest businesses with annual revenues of over $2 billion, and Nashville is known as the hottest spot in the state.

Tourism:
Check out the Country Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn the stories behind the music as you view over 3,000 stage costumes, and many of the personal items of music legends, including Elvis' solid gold Cadillac. Next, it is off to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. The Jack Daniels distillery was awarded its license in the state of Tennessee to produce what has become the most famous southern sipping whiskey in 1866. Guided tours of the facility are offered daily. Couple your visit to the distillery with a stroll through downtown Lynchburg. The area features additional historic sites and several souvenir shops. Nashville Zoo Panorama, Zoos, Fun Days Out and The Great Outdoors are all great for family fun. You will encounter cougars, Bengal tigers, zebras and river otters. Kids can even go a bit wild on 'The Jungle Gym' playground. There is also a working farm exhibit and a petting zoo for kids of all ages. With all of these exciting amenities, it's no wonder why Nashville moving companies are so busy.
