Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. Spartanburg, South Carolina

Spartanburg, South Carolina is the main city in the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Spartanburg which, in turn, forms part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson Combined Statistical Area. Those moving to Spartanburg will also discover that it lies on the Blue Ridge Mountain range, in an area of natural beauty with many rivers and lakes.

Economy:
One of the largest contributors to the economy of Spartanburg is its Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport which is wholly owned by the City and generates around $15.5 million in revenues. It provides some 190 jobs, generating a payroll of more than $5.2 million. This airport serves needs of the local community as well as attending to corporate jets belonging to some of the biggest companies operating out of the city.

The German company BMW has been operating a manufacturing plant in Spartanburg since 1996 where certain series of the company’s cars are built for export.

The global headquarters of Extended Stay Hotels, Milliken & Company (which also has a research facility) and Denny’s Restaurants; and the national headquarters of QS/1 Data Systems and Advance America are all located in Spartanburg.
Other contributors to the economy of Spartanburg are regional and local government and the school system.

Tourism:
The cultural life of the City is on view at the Spartanburg Museum of Art, the Spartanburg Regional Museum of History, the Spartanburg Science Center and at the Ballet Spartanburg. The area has several golf courses and the Southern Conference of the NCAA has its headquarters in the City.
Spartanburg also hosts many outdoor festivals and live music events, farmers’ markets and a Greek Festival.

History:
The area where Spartanburg is located was once the home of the Cherokee and Catawba tribes. In more modern history, pioneering settlers arrived from France, England, Ireland and Scotland. In 1780s the settlement became a courthouse village and was given its name in honor of the South Carolina Militia’s Spartan Regiment. The City was incorporated in 1831.
