Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

York, Pennsylvania

Mention the name York, Pennsylvania, and for many that have visited this beautiful place it will conjure up thoughts of a visit to Snyder’s of Hanover, the original home of the Pretzel. Those moving to York, also known as White Rose City, will discover one of the quaintest old world places to live.

Economy:
York has a diverse variety of businesses contributing to the economy. York Barbell is a reseller of weightlifting barbells and other bodybuilding equipment. Roughly half of the entire Harley-Davidson workforce is deployed at their York facility. Water turbine manufactures are well represented locally in the form of the Voith Siemens and American Hydro plants. York is also headquarters to York International, a Johnson Controls company and one of the largest suppliers of HVAC systems in the United States. The Japanese-owned Stauffer Biscuit Company has been associated with York for over 140 years. Starbucks has one of only four of its roasting facilities located near York, and major regional department store, The Bon-Ton, is headquartered in the City. And let us not forget assembly of military tanks and equipment through BAE Systems, also located in there. So if you are thinking of moving to York you will find plenty of employment opportunities and a very pleasant lifestyle on offer too!

History:
Founded in 1741 by settlers from the Philadelphia region, York was named after its ancient English namesake. For about 40 years in the early 19th century, York ranked within the nation’s top 100 most populous urban areas. It was the largest northern town to be occupied by the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. After hostilities ended, York continued as a regional center for agriculture although industrialization was on the increase following the arrival of steam engines and their railroads. The automobile industry arrived in the very early part of the 20th century with the York Motor Company under the Pullman brand name. One of the models designed and built by Pullman was a unique six-wheeled prototype, but the concept never really took off. Pottery also came to York with renowned porcelain maker Pfaltzgraff manufacturing fine china for over 100 years until 2005. In more recent history York has continued to grow from strength to strength notwithstanding the vagaries of the early 20th century recession. An indication of York’s progressive attitude can be gleamed from the appointment of the first African-American woman mayor in early 2010.

Tourism:
Factory Tours are the rave in beautiful York, Pennsylvania. You can witness a legend in making when you visit Harley-Davidson’s York Vehicle Operations. Take in a bit of history when you attend one of the exhibits featuring the plant’s history – some motor cycling biking enthusiasts may have trouble leaving this facility. If that is not your scene there are no less than twenty other Factory Tours to choose from ranging from candy making to chocolate production, or, if you prefer you could book yourself on a factory tour of a violin making facility. The Weightlifting Hall of Fame is a must to see and is located right next door to the famed York Barbell company. There are several famous landmarks and historically significant buildings to view as well - Bonham House and the York County Colonial Complex for example, both dating back to the early 18th century.
