The Hills and reality star Lauren Conrad recently chose the winner of the “Got Milk” Campaign contest from a huge tribe of contestants, yet plucked a 15-year-old girl from Erie, Pennsylvania to help her reveal her milk moustache at the Grove in Los Angeles. In other news, at the end of June this year, there were severe thunderstorms that were reportedly crossing the northwestern Pennsylvania region when a tornado briefly touched down in Preque Isle State Park. It is always something interesting going on in the city of Erie. It’s a charming little town that has big city energy and entertainment.

History:
Erie was an Iroquois and Seneca Nation town before the French settled here. The French first settled and built Fort Presque Isle—here, is where they camped out waiting for the English that were quickly approaching. The French abandoned the fort in 1760 to the British who occupied the space during the Seven Years War. Erie, Pennsylvania also played a huge role in the War of 1812, when President James Madison charters a naval fleet be built on Lake Erie to perturb people trying to get in. Our winnings in the War of 1812 against the English helped our country gain control of the Great Lakes. After this time, Erie developed its rail system and became one of the most transportation hubs running materials and people to Erie.

Tourism:
Most cities always have one destination you can’t leave without seeing. In Erie, Pennsylvania, where history and maritime happenstances coincide, you must visit the U.S. Brig Niagara if you are visiting for the first time. The U.S. Brig Niagara was constructed during the War of 1812 as a relief ship for Oliver Hazard Perry during the Battle of Lake Erie. The ship, which is one of the last remaining ships from that particular war, is docked behind the Erie Maritime Museum in Downtown Erie. Another must-see place is the Presque Island Peninsula and State Park, one of the most popular in the state of Pennsylvania. It is called Pennsylvania’s only seashore. Once there, you can bird watch, gander at the area’s endangered species that resides there, boat, water ski, scuba dive and etc. There are endless possibilities.
