Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

The city of Reading, Pennsylvania is located where the Schuylkill River and the East Lebanon-Penn Valley converge.  It is well known for its cultural arts and has both a symphony orchestra and an opera company.  Popular country music artist, Taylor Swift was born there as was literary great, author John Updike and famous artist Keith Haring. Moving to Reading can be a popular destination for you too!

Economy:
Agriculture is one of the most lucrative businesses in Reading, but Penske Truck Leasing is also based there. City officials are largely focused on creating new jobs and on attracting new businesses to Reading.  There are also measures in place to inspire growth in companies already located tin the area in the form of tax incentives and low interest loans.  In 2009, Reading’s real estate market saw housing values continuing to decline to the tune of more than -8 percent. The unemployment rate is higher than the country’s median rate, but on the flip side, the cost of living is more than 22 percent lower than in the average U.S. city making Reading an excellent moving destination.

Tourism:
There are many museums featuring a myriad of artistic works and many different places to catch live theater in Reading. You can also visit Centre Park, one of Reading’s original suburbs, and see more than 800 beautiful Victorian homes. You can even see the inside of some of these homes during the Spring Garden or Christmas tours. Sports fans can catch an exciting hockey game from the AHL’s Reading Royals or watch the Reading Phillies in a Minor League Baseball game.

History:
The state of Pennsylvania was named for Sir William Penn. His son who was also named William Penn founded Pennsylvania.  William’s sons Richard and Thomas Penn founded the town in 1743 and it was officially established five years later.  Reading served as a military base during the French Indian War and during the American Revolution.  Reading’s population was on the rise until well into the 1930s. In the decades that followed, all the way through the 1970s, Reading began to see a decline in both population and in its economy as the need for heavy industrial manufacturing declined and Reading Railroad declared bankruptcy in 1971. By the year 2000, slowly but surely, the population is on the upswing again.
