Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Toledo, Ohio

The fact that Toledo is a great place to call home is nothing new to the town’s residents. In 2007, the city won third place in the esteemed International Awards for Livable Communities. This is only one of many acknowledgment of Toledo's quality of life, the attractiveness of the city and the hospitality of the people. Nestled next to the largest supply of fresh water in the world and known for its clean green environment, those moving to Toledo will discover a wonderful place to raise a family, start a career and grow old. A place people of many different faiths and ethnicity have chosen to call home.

History:
Toledo, Ohio was incorporated in 1836. When the Wabash and Erie Canal was mapped later that same year, the location of Toledo was chosen. By 1840, Toledo had a population of approximately 1,300 residents. Although the canal would bring considerable business to Toledo, the community still struggled during its early years. Many of the city’s residents suffered from pandemic that as spreading rapidly through the region. Until, finally, the canal was opened in 1845. The canal made the town a growing seaport along Lake Erie, and much commerce traveled through the town. In addition to the Wabash and Erie Canal, Toledo was linked to the city of Cincinnati by way of the Miami and Erie Canal. By 1880, Toledo had a booming population of more than 50,000 people, making it one of the largest cities in the state. Many immigrants began to settle in Toledo by the late 19th century, attracted to the city because of the factory jobs available and the city's accessibility by rail and by water. In the 20th century, Toledo continued to grow in terms of both population and industry. Because of the city’s dependence on manufacturing, the city suffered high unemployment rates during the Great Depression. As World War II began, however, Toledo's industries turned to wartime production, and unemployment concerns vanished.

Economy:
Manufacturing accounts for nearly one-fifth of Toledo's economic base. Close to 1,000 manufacturing facilities operate in the metropolitan area. Such manufacturing facilities include automotive assembly and parts production, plastic, glass and metal parts. Toledo, Ohio is home to the headquarters of The Andersons, Dana Corporation, Libbey, Inc., Libbey-Owens-Ford Company and Seaway Food Town, and with the city’s 10 major financial institutions, Toledo is also considered a banking and finance center for northwestern Ohio. Technologically and medical oriented businesses are a key force in the local economy; Lucas County ranks among the 50 counties in the United States that account for 50 percent of medical industry production. A number of private testing laboratories and manufacturers of medical instruments are located in Toledo. With the city’s many nearby universities and large public school system, education remains another economic pillar. The city’s eighth largest employer, the Medical College of Ohio, contributes about $500 million to the economy every year.

Tourism:
Start your adventure at the Toledo Zoo. Consistently rated as one of the nation's ten best, this park will keep everyone in the family fully engaged. Of course, you cannot talk about Toledo without mentioning Lake Erie and the Maumee River, which runs right through the downtown. There are countless things to experience along the water in Toledo, including fishing, boating, dining at the restaurants at the docks or spending the day at serene Maumee Bay State Park. Beyond the riverbanks, you may be surprised at the diversity and breadth of attractions and activities Toledo has to offer. For the sports fan, area highlights include baseball, UT Rockets basketball and football, hockey with the Toledo Storm, bowling, golfing, motorsports at Toledo Speedway, horse racing, along with boating and fishing on the Maumee River. Getting hungry? Among the city’s popular fast food choices are the unique experiences offered by Tony Packo's Cafe, Fifi's Restaurant, Maumee Bay Brewing Company, Cousino's Cafe Chez Vin, Old Navy Bistro, Manos Greek Restaurant & Bar, Ciao! Ristorante, El Matador Restaurant, Damon's, and Mark Pi's China Gate.
