Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Fargo, North Dakota

The city of Fargo, North Dakota certainly had a colorful start out, being as it were a stopover point for mighty steamboats plying their trade and carrying passengers. History tends to make the river steamboat the exclusive domains of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, but the Red River certainly had its fair share. First named "Centralia," the name “Fargo” was bestowed in honor of William Fargo who founded the legendary Wells Fargo coaching service. Fargo was also a director of Northern Pacific Railroad and was instrumental in routing this through Fargo and making the town a gateway to the west. With all of these exciting opportunities, it's no wonder why so many Fargo movers are so busy.

History:
Space limits us here from delving too deeply so herewith a brief summary. After its colorful start up in the 1870s, Fargo experienced a serious fire on June 7th, 1893 when a careless dweller trashed some hot coals outside her shack during a strong wind. The town was virtually razed, but in double-quick time new brick buildings were constructed and the future looked good for Fargo once again. Industry came to the city in 1905 in the form of the Pence Automobile Company. This signaled the start of many new ventures that kept the City growing at a healthy pace throughout the early decades of the twentieth century. The Fargo – Moorhead area experienced exceptional growth after World War II, and then with the arrival of two interstates saw even more rapid expansion. The latter part of the last century and the first decade of the twenty-first have seen some impressive commercial interests arriving in Fargo once again, attesting to this city’s fine infrastructure and future potential.

Economy:
Those moving to Fargo will also learn about an economy that was dependent historically on agriculture but the shift in recent decades has been to a diverse base of commercial activities and interests such as food processing, manufacturing, technology, healthcare, retail and education. The sheer variety of investors in this city has no doubt contributed to Fargo being ranked the 'Seventh Best Small City' in the nation to start a business or launch a career.

Tourism:
You should first check out the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitor Bureau before planning your stay in Fargo, but here are some of the other attractions in the area. The Fargo Air Museum is a “must see”, and, if you are interested in the arts don’t leave out the Fargo Theatre. But there is plenty more depending on your interests, and you can shop until you drop or dine at a one of a hundred full-service restaurants.

Universities/Colleges:

Interesting Facts:

  • There seems to be an exact 50:50 ratio between males and females in Fargo - that is in terms of numbers at least.
  • The median property price for Fargo is emerging from the recession and tracked a five year high in the third quarter of 2010. Sales count is still down though.
  • Astronaut James F. Buchli was born in Fargo in 1945. He participated in five space flights.
