Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Syracuse, New York

Syracuse, New York is vital for the movement of goods and people along many transportation routes in the Northeast. Syracuse is a city of hills, valleys, lakes and streams. Positioned at the center of New York on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area is made up of four counties Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison and Oswego. The city sits on the shores of lakes Onondaga and Ontario, within 20 miles of the beautiful Finger Lakes region. When moving to Syracuse, you will instantly discover big-city amenities with a small-town feel.

History:
Named Syracuse in 1820 by John Wilkinson, the village continued to expand as the railroad came through in 1839. Nine years later, the Villages of Syracuse and Salina voted to merge, forming the City of Syracuse. By the mid-19th century, Syracuse was well established as the backbone of the Upstate region; with roads, rails and canals extending in all directions. The salt industry was reaching its peak, a water system was established, and banks were formed to finance new businesses and a growing agricultural economy. Downtown continued to emerge as the center of the city. Aside from a number of important local department stores, the core area offered fine entertainment through such theaters as the Bastable and the Wieting Opera House. The city's population declined as the move to the suburbs began to intensify. New school systems, shopping centers began popping up. Movie houses soon shut their doors and the television took over. Urban renewal resulted in demolition of dozens of downtown blocks. New buildings were constructed, including the War Memorial, the twin towers of MONY Center, Civic Center and I.M. Pei's Everson Museum of Art. The new construction lent significantly to the area’s development; as did new government buildings, and a number of high-rises devoted to modern banking, financing and city apartments.

Economy:
Syracuse is a major industrial, commercial and transportation hub for the Northeast. Fortunately for the city, its economy is highly diversified—which enabled the city to weather the recession of 2001. While manufacturing remains important to the city’s local market, the service industry continues to experience record growth. Other leading sectors include call centers, education services, finance and retail trade. Syracuse has been recognized as a superb place to work as well as live, and the city’s Cost of Doing Business Index is sixth lowest in the nation at 87.7.  Syracuse was also named by Expansion Management magazine among the country's top 50 cities for business, relocation and expansion. Recent studies point to Syracuse as being a leader in the state in job growth. Come of the area most prominently produced goods include air conditioning and heating equipment, automotive components, military electronics and telecommunication devices.

Tourism:
From the fascinating Erie Canal parks that dot the east-west route of the historic canal, to the city’s terrific fishing, gorgeous lakes and numerous scenic parks, to the city’s wide variety of performing and visual arts, the Greater Syracuse area has something for everyone. Enjoy the city’s more than 50 state and city parks, 40 golf courses and nearly 50 museums and galleries, including the nationally know Everson Museum. The Syracuse Opera is the only year-round professional opera company in the United States. Looking for a little family fun? Head over to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park. This zoo is open year-round and is sure to entertain the animal lover in every group. Finally, don’t miss out on the New York State Fair. The longest-running state fair in the country, this fair attracts one million people every year.
