Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Buffalo, New York

Situated in western New York, Buffalo is an ideal moving destination for families and college students due to its area amenities and access to numerous universities.  It is known as the “Queen City” because it is the second most populated city in the state with over 280,000 residents. New York City is of course the largest city in the state and is known as “The King.” Buffalo’s population actually peaked in 1950 and has continued to decline annually ever since. Buffalo, New York still has much to offer and whether you are a sports enthusiast or an art lover you can find activities to fuel your passion.  The city is filled with green space too and the majority of its parks were created in the 1800’s by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux. This duo also designed Central Park in New York City.

Economy:
Buffalo is home to many different companies.  Though automobile production is no longer a major industry there, both Ford and Chevrolet still have plants in Buffalo.  Rich Products Corporation is one of the largest, privately held food companies in the world and is also headquartered in Buffalo.  The main offices of Wegmans and Tops Supermarkets, as well as HSBC and M&T Banks are there too. Even with all these great companies, Buffalo’s is one of the poorest cities in the country. There is much ongoing effort to revive the city’s economy by both city and state government officials.  To date, things seem to be turning around slowly or at least the economic decline has slowed.

Tourism:
The first tourist attraction that comes to mind is one of the Seven Wonders of the World – Niagara Falls.  Buffalo’s waterfront along Lake Erie, has afforded the city much economic success in the past and there is now a plan in place to recreate it as a mixed use area complete with shopping, dining and residential space. There are hopes that this waterfront will be a tourist destination too.  There are many different museums and galleries to check out. Buffalo is also known for having a vast offering of cuisines.  Some foods that are indigenous to this part of the country are kielbasa, sponge candy, beef on weck sandwiches and a loganberry beverage.

History:
Buffalo officially became a city in the year 1832, but it was first settled in 1789.  Its first industry was trading goods, but the city saw much growth with the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. Buffalo became the largest steel manufacturer in the world and was also a huge player in the grain milling industry.  The city also was a major train hub.  Many of the advancements in other areas and cities led to the demise of trade and industry in Buffalo. In 1970, Amtrak opened and this meant that trains no longer passed through Buffalo Central Terminal.  Steel was now produced in China and the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway system of locks and channels caused major shipping that had brought much fortune into Buffalo to be rerouted elsewhere. Now, people are moving to Buffalo seeking affordable housing and incredible area attractions, which they will surely discover.
