Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Bronx, NY

What images come to mind when you think of the Bronx, New York?  Most people think of the New York Yankees and although its residents love their Bronx Bombers, the area has so much more to offer for people who are moving to the Bronx. Most parts of the city are safer and renovations are taking place all over. There are also many beautiful parks situated in many parts of the city. As a matter of fact, parks make up about a quarter of the land in the Bronx. There is a very affluent area called Fieldston that is filled with about 250 gorgeous homes. The unique thing about the neighborhood is that it is 100 percent privately owned by the residents there. The homeowner’s association dues cover all necessary upkeep.

Economy:
The Bronx economy is largely supported by the service industry – most specifically in the healthcare sector. More than half of the jobs in the city are service jobs.  The trade industry makes up another quarter of the jobs.  There is currently much residential growth and renovation in the city and in the past year, housing values have actually increased. New retail establishments are popping up as well.

Tourism:
There are many things to do in the Bronx. There are multiple museums to enjoy no matter where your interests lie. First you can check out the Bronx Museum of the Arts and then maybe make a visit to the Edgar Allen Poe Cottage. Other options include: the City Island Nautical Museum or the Derfner Judaica Museum. If museums aren’t your thing, hit a New York Yankees game or venture to the Bronx Zoo, which houses over 4,000 animals. If flowers or nature suit your fancy, why not make a trip to the New York Botanical Garden or even the Woodlawn Cemetery, which has 400 acres of gardens.

History:
In the beginning, the Bronx was a farming town. In the 19th century the advances in transportation allowed for significant industrial growth. First there was the railroad and then, in 1904, the subway began running between the Bronx and Manhattan.  The population started to expand as well. By 1930, there were 200,000 people living in the Bronx. Like many other cities, the growth slowed down during the Great Depression. The years between 1950 and 1979 unfortunately were filled with economic decline.  Buildings became dilapidated and crime ran rampant. In the 1970’s, the city was plagued by arson. Finally, with a new decade came new promise. In the 1980’s, a revival began filled with renovated buildings, new investors and a growing population as numerous moving companies relocate new residents to the Bronx every day.
