Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

A Moving Around

Saint Louis, MO

Sometimes, a city can be defined by food and beverages that are representative of the region. St. Louis, Missouri is no exception. Residents of St. Louis consumer more barbecue sauce per capita than any other city in the United States. Anheuser-Busch Brewery produces more beer than any other facility in the country and it is located right there in St. Louis. Iced Tea, Dr. Pepper and 7-Up were all served for the very first time in 1904 at the World’s Fair in St. Louis.  The ice cream cone was invented at this World’s Fair too when an ice cream vendor ran out of cups and asked a waffle seller to roll a waffle up for him to use. With all of these delicious offerings, it’s no wonder St. Louis is a popular moving destination.

Economy:
St. Louis is home to many Fortune 500 companies. Other than the previously mentioned Anheuser-Busch Brewery, a few other well-known companies like Ralston Purina, Energizer and Panera Bread Company are headquartered there. The city’s current economy is thriving as it continues to see renovations and new building. New construction and renovations are both rewarded with special tax benefits to help revamp the city. The city is making great strides in research and development, especially in the field of biotechnology.

Tourism:
Not only are there many different things to see and do in St. Louis, a vast majority of the attractions are free! Residents, visitors and people who are moving to St. Louis will love the St. Louis Art Museum that boasts a vast collection of fine art.  It was built for the World’s Fair back in 1904 and is free to visit. The zoo also has free admission and is home to over 22,000 animals. The aforementioned Anheuser-Busch offers free tours of its brewery along with the opportunity to check out the famous Clydesdales’ stables. The St. Louis History Museum allows guests to take a tour through time without paying for admission. Why not take a drive down the famed Route 66 – it will only set you back the cost of gas.

History:
In 1542, the area that later became St. Louis was explored by Hernando de Soto of Spain, but the country made no claims to the territory. More than 100 years later in 1673 French explorers Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet also traveled through the area, but did not choose to settle there either. It wasn’t until 1763 that Pierre Laclede decided that this was the perfect place to begin a new life. He named the city for France’s King Louis the IX. St. Louis became part of the Louisiana Territory and control soon transferred from France to Spain. By way of a secret treat known as The Treaty of San Ildefonso, France regained ownership of this Louisiana Territory. In 1803, the United States bought the land in the Louisiana Purchase. In 1805, St. Louis was deemed the capital of this new U.S. Territory. New transportation opened up a whole new world or growth and prosperity for the city.  In 1817, St. Louis received its first steamboat name the “Zebulon M. Pike,” and in 1818 the city had its first paved streets.  In 1843 the first mass transit busing system was set up. The 1859 the city had its first streetcar. In 1885 cable cars were introduced and in 1930 the Lambert St. Louis airport opened. Today, moving companies in St. Louis transport new residents and their belongings to this exciting and thriving southern city.
