Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Ypsilanti, Michigan

Ypsilanti, Michigan is a progressive city with a great community vibe and arts scene. The city of Ypsilanti has 22,000 residents that keep it going everyday of the week. The city is also a proud recipient of the Michigan Cool Cities award. Residence enjoy the scene and all the interesting people who live here. Those moving to Ypsilanti will find an amazing amount of talent and energy in its residents and business people.

History:
In 1809, three French explorers built a log structure on the west bank of an Indian trading post and was one of the earliest structures in the vast, sparsely populated Michigan territory whose citizens, including forts, numbered just 4,762. In 1825, three prominent settlers, Judge Augustus Woodward, John Stewart and William Harwood, combined portions of their own land to form the original plat for a new settlement at the crossing. This new settlement was named for the Greek Patriot General Demetrius Ypsilanti. Travel from Detroit by stagecoach became possible in 1830 and by 1832 three stage lines served Ypsilanti. In 1835, the military road to Chicago was officially opened, with new towns springing up along its length. Three years later the railroad from Detroit reached Ypsilanti. The first wood frame depot was built in 1838 and two decades later a large brick masonry station was constructed. Early on the community gained recognition for its educational institutions. The Ypsilanti Seminary was established in 1845 and in 1849, a teacher training school was established known as the Michigan Normal School, now Eastern Michigan University. Cleary College was founded in 1883. Over the years, Ypsilanti grew and flourished. The early development of the community was influenced and enhanced by the presence of the river and its abundant waterpower. As the years progressed, the river industries of the mid to late 19th century yielded to manufacturing and the mills gave way to auto related commerce, which became a major economic force in the community. In 1941, Ford Motor Company built a plant in Willow Run. That plant was converted to wartime production when the U.S. entered World War II.

Economy:
Business in Ypsilanti benefits from easy access to I-94 on the south side of town - 5 minutes west to US-23 and Ann Arbor, 15 minutes east to US-275 and Detroit Metro Airport and 10 minutes to Willow Run Airport. Employees and residents enjoy convenient bus access to Ann Arbor, six college campuses, and three major hospitals, as well as pleasant walking and biking within the 4.5 square mile community. Ypsilanti features one of the largest contiguous historic districts in the State, including two traditional downtowns beautifully connected across the Huron River by Riverside and Frog Island parks. Education is key to the success in Ypsilanti, home of Eastern Michigan University (EMU) and a talented and creative workforce. A short bus ride or commute and residents can attend Washtenaw Community College or the University of Michigan. Ypsilanti is a community of engaged citizens, whether it’s through the Downtown Association of Ypsilanti, the Shadow Art Fair, Solar City hall project, volunteering in the parks, community gardening, neighborhood associations, running the community pool or meeting up at the local cafe, staying engaged through local blogs and online communities.

Tourism:
Start by heading to the Aubree’s Saloon. This unique two-story bar and restaurant in historic Depot Town, serves homemade soups, sandwiches and Mexican specialties. Aubree's is downstairs for great pizza and a full bar with Kino and video games and Sticks is upstairs with a full bar and pool tables. Next, check out Bowerbird Mongo. More than your typical antique shop; it is a collection of treasures that have many years of beauty, functionality, and enjoyment left in them. For family fun, the Dreamland Theater and Gallery features puppetry, art exhibits, independent film screenings, live theater, music, and more. Or, visit the Ford Gallery of the Eastern Michigan University shows works by students and faculty from the Department of Art. Finally, the Michigan Firehouse Museum is a historic revival brick three-story Firehouse with 10,000 sq. ft. museum offering antique fire trucks, equipment, clothing, memorabilia and exhibits. The exhibits of the Michigan Firehouse Museum demonstrate early American firefighting history through the 20th century.
