Battle Creek, Michigan

Situated in Calhoun County, Battle Creek, Michigan is the main city in the Battle Creek/Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area and is the third largest city in the State of Michigan.

Economy:
The world famous Kellogg Company was founded in Battle Creek and is still in operation today; and is one of the city’s major employers. Post Cereals also has a large operation in the city.

The Fort Custer Army National Guard Base/Industrial Park is another large contributor to the city’s finances.

Denso, makers of car spare parts and accessories, Clyde Union and agriculture add to the diverse economy of the city.

History:
The first European settlers of the area arrived in 1831 and began farming the fertile land; and formed a village called Battle Creek Township. The first post office was opened in 1832 and the first school in 1833. By 1837 a saw mill had been built and in 1840 the manufacture of bricks began, thus cementing the Township’s future which was officially established in 1839. Battle Creek was incorporated as a city in 1859.

Tourism:
Battle Creek is a haven for lovers of the great outdoors, as the city boasts more than 7,000 acres of parks and golf courses. There are wonderful walks and hiking trails; and boating and fishing on the rivers.

Culture buffs will relish the natural history museum, the Battle Creek Sanitarium and the arts center; and Binder Park Zoo is a great day out for the whole family.Battle Creek hosts many festivals. Primary among them is the Cereal City Festival which is held each June; the Battle Creek Field of Flight Entertainment Festival which is a hot air balloon and air show; and the International Festival of Lights. Culinary tastes will be satisfied with the World's Longest Breakfast Table and the Taste of Battle Creek, both great visitor experiences.
