Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Somerville, Massachusetts

Somerville is located in the Mystic Valley and is one of the most important industrial urban cities in Massachusetts. Somerville is a 70,000+ community living in an area of about four square miles. This makes it one of the most densely populated cities in New England. The small size of the city makes it a very well-knit community. Although not exactly ideal for families, the city sure is one of the best environments for businessmen. Many businesses are moving to Somerville to benefit from the city’s economic culture and efficient layout.

Economy:
Somerville is an industrial and manufacturing hub in New England. The city’s proximity to Boston and Charlestown helped early maturing of markets for the agriculture, dairy, pottery and brick industries of Somerville. After being incorporated as a town in 1842, the growth was suddenly stimulated and the population of the city tripled in a short span. As a result, there was ample labour and resource for industrialists to start manufacturing centres. Due to the early start that it got, Somerville today has a variety of manufacturing industries including plumping hardware, rolling and slitting mills, iron works, engines, steam boilers glass, food processing and meat packaging. Somerville is also one of the largest suppliers of bricks. Record years saw sales of 24 million bricks a year from the 12 manufacturers in the city. Somerville also has a high median household income. In 2009, the estimate gave its value to be $69,471, which is higher not only in Massachusetts but also in the majority of the US states. Moving companies in New England have had successful business in Somerville as many people were moving here.

History:
Originally Somerville was part of Charlestown. During the early years of America, it was a very important place for many reasons. During the Revolutionary War it was a critical Military position with fortifications on Prospect Hill. This hill was an important corridor of turnpike, canal and railroad routes from Boston. Before that, Somerville was a peaceful grazing land for Charlestown residents. There were very few residents in Somerville. An important place was Governor Winthrop’s estate at Ten Hills. This was the location for the first ship built in the colonies. It was called Blessing of the bay and was made in 1631. Overtime, the lands at Somerville were used by manufacturing industries, especially bricks. In a few years it was a thriving town and had to be incorporated as a separate town from Charlestown. It was incorporated later as a city in 1872.

Tourism:
Somerville is home to a very active Arts and Entertainment community. The city hosts a number of events promoting arts every year. ArtBeat is held in July at Davis Square and is one of the region’s largest art festivals. Somerville is also very rich in culture. One of the most notable sites is Somerville Museum which tells the story of the city’s history. Other attractions in the city include Old North Church, Franklin Park Zoo, The New England Aquarium and Fenway Park.
