Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Lexington, Kentucky

Lexington, Kentucky is the second largest city in the state that is commonly known by its nicknames “Thoroughbred City,” “The Horse Capital of the World” and the “Athens of the West.” Lexington is undoubtedly lives up to these nicknames with its booming economy, rich history and blossoming tourism. Those moving to Lexington will not only discover a popular place to bred bred racing horses but an agricultural hot spot for people of all ages.

Economy:
Lexington’s economy is dominated by the horse industry. Horses bring billions of dollars to the Bluegrass Country. Lexington is home to more than 450 horse farms, a great percentage of which are thoroughbred. The ideal conditions in Lexington create a wonderful atmosphere for breeding, raising and training horses. Horse racing contributes to this industry by making Lexington popular with tourists, horse lovers, experts and gamblers.

The city’s economy has still so much more to offer to anyone interested in moving to Lexington. Lexington’s ideal soil and climate conditions not only play an important role in the horse industry, they also make the agriculture in the city blossom. Corn, soybeans, alfalfa hay, wheat and barley are some of the city’s produce. The city is also a major market for cattle. Other major industries in the city include the car industry, the University of Kentucky which accounts for a huge chunk of the labor force, and manufacturing.

History:
The area of Lexington was used by Native American tribes as a hunting ground before the arrival of the Europeans. Daniel Boone was one of the first Anglo-Saxons to explore the area. He helped establish Kentucky's first forts in Harrodsburg and Boonesborough. In 1775, a campsite was founded to honor a colonial victory during the American Revolutionary War’s first battle.  The settlement was found after Lexington, Massachusetts. At the time, the area was quite the battlefield, as the natives and the settlers fought for ownership over the land. About 30 years after the founding of the campsite, Lexington was established as a town after the successful petition of the Virginia General Assembly. Due to the growth the town had at the time, Lexington became known as the “Athens of the West.” By the 19th century, the town was a manufacturing and trade center.

Tourism:
Horses still contribute greatly to Lexington’s tourism. The city’s horse races and farms take the center stage in gathering the most tourists and visitors. Touring a private horse farm is a time honored tradition in Lexington. Aside from the horses, there are also a number of museums, restaurants, markets and art centers in the area. The American Saddlebred Museum, Aviation Museum of Kentucky ,and the Bluegrass Farmers' Market are some of the establishments one might want to visit while in Lexington. Festivals that draw tourists and people moving to Lexington are the May Fest and the Festival of Bluegrass.
