Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Olathe, Kansas

Developments are looking real good in Olathe, Kansas. It was named, “24th-fastest growing City in the Country” by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2008, and, in that same year 11th of “100 Best Cities to Live in the U.S.” by CNN/Money and Money. Those relocating to Olathe will discover everything they need and more.

History:
Olathe was founded in 1857 and within two years it was the seat of Johnson County. Its formative years were decidedly risky with pro-slavery forces from nearby Missouri often clashing with what became known as “Bleeding Kansas” conflicts with the abolitionists in Olathe. The violence ceased in the 1860s with Kansas entering the Union. Olathe’s strategic location presented the city with some excellent opportunities acting as it did as stopover point on the Oregon/Santa Fe/California Trails. The city prospered well from the accommodations offered as well as the catering needs of the travelers, and establishments such as Mahaffie House became famous points for the re-supply of westward-heading wagons. Alas, the construction of the transcontinental railroad that followed had the opposite affect on Olathe, and, as the wagon trails faded into history the City was reduced to a small, sleepy prairie town. Fortune smiled again on Olathe with the coming of the Interstate Highway system. Olathe found itself suddenly linked directly to Kansas City thanks to route I-35. The result has been almost legendary in terms of expansion and further growth.

Economy:
There are some big names that have their headquarters based in Olathe. These include Honeywell, Husqvarna, Garmin, Grundfos and ALDI. Farmers Insurance also has a strong presence locally although their headquarters are in Los Angeles. The U. S. Department of Transport has chosen Olathe for one of its Air Route Traffic Control Centers – among twenty other regional centers countrywide. Johnson County Executive Airport serves as an important facility for the busy executive traveler too.

Tourism:
Your visit to Olathe is certainly going to be full of interest. The Olathe Chamber of Commerce has lined up “must see” attractions for the tourist through its Convention & Visitor Bureau. And there are some truly fascinating places to see as well – here are just two exciting suggestions:

The American Jazz Museum – They say that Jazz was born in New Orleans but that it grew up in Kansas City. Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site – Take a walk back in time!

What are you waiting for, you had better start planning that visit right away.

Universities/Colleges:

Interesting Facts:

  • Of the population aged 25 and older, 39.9% hold bachelor degrees or higher in Olathe.
  • Olathe’s nickname is “Cowboy Boot Capital.”
  • Olathe’s estimated median household income of $75,009 in 2009 compares very favorably with the Kansas State average of $47,817.
