Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Chicago, Illinois

The highlight of the Midwest, Chicago, Illinois is more than one of the country’s most important business communities. The city of Chicago is a multicultural city that thrives on the harmony and diversity of its neighborhoods. Today, Chicago embodies the values of America's heartland-integrity, hard work and community. Those moving to Chicago, Illinois will be met by a town of passionate sports fans, polarizing seasons and more than enough deep-dish pizza to satisfy even the largest appetites. In addition to the city’s playful spirit, Chicago is a leader in reforming public schools, enhancing public safety, providing affordable housing and ensuring accessibility.

Economy:
Chicago has been a hub for commerce in the U.S. for a majority of its modern history. Before it being incorporated in 1833, the most important industry of this Midwest metropolis was fur trading. Today, Chicago remains the country’s second largest central business district, with the third largest gross metropolitan product. In fact, Chicago's economy currently ranks it 18th in the world. Today, the city consider industries such as steel, oil and banking to be the great global market segments, but in the 1860s Chicago's pork and beef industry represented its first global industry. As the major meat companies grew, many companies created global enterprises and communicated with divisions spread across the globe. A number of events have led to the city’s success; among them were Chicago's transportation systems and geographic proximity to the rest of the country. With all of these exciting opportunities, it's no wonder so many Chicago moving companies are so busy.

History:
The location at the entrance of the Chicago River was selected due to its value as a trading post; Later, a military base named Fort Dearborn would occupy this area. In 1833, Chicago was incorporated as a city. With the arrival of the railroads, the city of Chicago began to explode, reaching a population of 300,000 in 1870. One year later, disaster would strike when the Great Chicago Fire hit the downtown, turning the city in ashes. The fire destroyed about several thousand buildings; nonetheless, just six weeks after the fire, construction of more than 300 buildings had already begun. In 1893, Chicago had recovered well enough to host the World Columbian Exposition, commemorating Columbus’s discovery of America 400 years ago. By the end of the 19th century land prices had increased dramatically, which lead to the construction of higher buildings.

Tourism:
You may have to move to Chicago permanently if you plan to experience everything this amazing city has to offer. Home to the last free zoo in the world in Lincoln Park Zoo, and some of the most famous ballparks in the country (Wrigley field and Soldier Field), Chicago, Illinois has more outdoor entertainment than most city’s have parking meters. Home to more than 40 museums, more than 150 theaters and over 6,000 restaurants, the action in this city doesn’t stop when you walk indoors. Hungry? Check out one of Chicago’s famous eatery’s in historic Wrigleyville and treat your taste buds to a Chicago-style hotdog, or a slice (or two) of famous deep-dish pizza. And Remember: Chicago is named the “Candy Capital of The World” for good reason, so feel free to treat yourself.
