Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Fort Myers, Florida

It is for good reason that the nickname for the cty of Fort Myers, Florida is “City of Palms,” you just have to view a couple of video clips and look at some websites to get the picture. You will see more for yourself when you actually visit this truly beautiful city, blessed with fantastic climate and a life style second-to-none. It’s time to pack your bags - whether you are just planning a vacation or moving to Fort Myers, you will be well rewarded.

Economy:
With a population of just short of 70,000 souls, Fort Myers is the county seat and the commercial hub of Lee County, Florida. The tourism industry plays a major role in the economy of Lee County, and of course Fort Myers too. The service sector has developed into a major job provider and makes an important contribution to the economy. Shops, hotels and other accommodation establishments, restaurants and many other businesses depend on, and owe much to tourism as well. With a thriving business base in Lee County, cities such as Fort Myers are providing state-of-the-art infrastructures and packaging attractive incentives to encourage entrepreneurial expansion in the area. There is also an abundant and growing supply of skilled labor available.

History:
Fort Myers began as a military fort built in 1850 to deter the Seminole Indians who were trying to resist early American settlers. The Fort took its name from Colonel Abraham C. Myers who was stationed in Florida for many years. Hostilities abated in the late 1850s when Chief Billy Bowlegs and his tribe were tricked into surrender and subjected to a “negotiated” move elsewhere. This meant there was no further use for the Fort so it was abandoned until the Civil War period began and Union troops took occupation. The Fort was once again abandoned after the war and it took a significant inflow of settlers in the 1880’s to revive interest in the area. After incorporation in 1885, Fort Myers stood as the second largest City on Florida’s west coast after Tampa. The City of Fort Myers became more noticed nationally with the opening of the Royal Palm Hotel in 1898, and the enormous interest in the area followed the opening of the Tamiami Trail Bridge across the Caloosahatchee River in 1924. Suddenly, Fort Myers became an accessible and trendy place to live. The rest, as they say, is history.

Tourism:
Want to see the kid’s faces light up? There is an attraction called the Imaginarium down in Fort Myers and it describes itself as “A Hands-on Museum and Aquarium.” Oh, and you can be sure that the family will learn a lot from this experience! If you want to take in as much as possible from a tour of Fort Myers then 360-Degree Tours should be just right for you – check out the link. Fancy fresh produce - look no further than the Downtown Farmers’ Market held every Thursday all year-round – rumor has it that if you can find fresher seafood it is still swimming! The Fort Myers Skatium is awesome and you will find the best Ice around for Public Skating sessions, or you could just observe some of the very best Ice Hockey action instead. For outdoor activities you can go boating or yachting, play golf on a choice of manicured golf courses, or simply “chill out” on a choice of pristine beaches. Start packing!
