Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

If you’re moving to Fort Lauderdale, you’re in for a treat. This lovely town, with its gorgeous beaches, extensive canals and thriving cultural scene, is known as “The Venice of America.” Its gorgeous weather and gentle ocean breezes are just one of the reasons that so many people are relocating to Fort Lauderdale. The city’s diverse economy and thriving night life mean that the quality of life for area residents is very high. With so many features to attract new residents, it’s no wonder why Fort Lauderdale moving companies are so busy.

Economy:
CNNMoney.com recently named Fort Lauderdale one of the top 100 “Best Places to Live and Launch.” In their opinion, Fort Lauderdale is an excellent place to launch a new company. Its primary strength is tourism; visitors flock from the United States, South America and Europe to enjoy the local beaches, as well as the many museums, galleries and theaters in the area. Business tourism is also important, and the 600,000-square-foot Fort Lauderdale Convention Center offers a range of modern conveniences to tempt companies to host their meetings there.

Tourism isn’t the only source of income in Fort Lauderdale. In addition, it is host to a range of industries, including avionics and aerospace, technology, marine, finance, insurance, film production and television production. In fact, it is the only U.S. area to enjoy 15 consecutive years of trade surpluses. What’s its secret? Strong trade ties to Latin America, including Brazil and Chile.

Fort Lauderdale’s leaders continue to invest in the town’s future. For example, the director of Port Everglades (the local port) recently announced a $20 billion, 20-year expansion plan. This includes funding for a new bridge, additional railroad lines and new terminals for cruise ships.

History:
Fort Lauderdale grew around Port Everglades, which is Florida’s deepest port. The port began as a shallow lake called Lake Mabel, which was separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a sand hill. The New River fed Lake Mabel, and the town realized that if they could eliminate the sand bar, the river could feed directly into the ocean and become a deepwater port. They dug out the Lake Mabel Cut, dredged the lake (now a bay) and soon had a world-class harbor.

Although the port project began in 1911, it wasn’t completed until 1928. However, once the port was ready, developers such as Warren T. Eller realized that Fort Lauderdale’s open, flat terrain was the ideal place to store large imported items. Bulk commodities such as lumber, petroleum, cement and scrap metal made up a large portion of the items imported through Port Everglades. By the 1950s the port was already an important point of call for cruise ships. This began a tradition of tourism that continues today.

Tourism:
The most popular attractions in Fort Lauderdale are its 23 miles of beaches. Here is a quick guide to the most popular locations:
• Deerfield Beach is family-friendly, with sheltered coves and exciting water parks. Ski Rixen, which is one of the water parks, offers cable water skiing, which does not require a boat.
• Hillsborough Beach is a favorite haunt of nature lovers watching for nesting turtles. It also boasts a lighthouse.
• Pompano Beach is known for its sports (such as volleyball and surfing). It is home to several festivals, including the annual Seafood Festival and Fishing Rodeo.
• Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a laid-back beach village with opportunities for snorkeling.
• Hollywood Beach is famous for its boardwalk. It also has a dog beach, and it’s located near some of the finest restaurants and nightclubs in town.
• Hallandale Beach is sometimes called the “Guy’s Getaway.” It offers racing and casinos, as well as golf courses and salt-water fishing.
• Dania Beach is known for its beautiful, uncrowded views, as well as its impressive fishing pier.
