Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Mark Twain once remarked that "Of all the beautiful towns it has been my fortune to see, Hartford is the chief." (If you were wondering Mark Twain did in fact live and work here from 1874 to 1891. You can actually take tours of the Mark Twain House.) Hartford, Connecticut is a wonderful place to relocate, if you are considering moving temporarily or permanently. With its central location and rich economic history, Hartford presents residents with opportunities for success found in only a few cities throughout the country. Today, Hartford is best known as the insurance center of the United States because of the many insurance giants that have rooted themselves here. They include: Aetna Inc., Travelers Property Casualty Corp., MassMutual, The Hartford Financial Services Group, CIGNA, the Phoenix Companies and the United Health Care Company.  Although the city has fallen on some challenging times, the city is working to build up a stable, emergent economy. Economy:
Metropolitan Hartford's strong, stable economy is based on a diverse business and industrial community. The area ranks number one in the world in GDP per capita and number two in the world in labor productivity. Long known as a powerful insurance and financial center, it also boasts an extensive list of major high-tech manufacturing firms producing such complex products as aircraft engines, nuclear reactors and missile components. The city is also a major manufacturing center. Other industries thriving in the area include health care, retail, data processing and telecommunications. Government plays a major role in the economic sector, with employees working in the state capitol building, libraries and the Supreme Court. Hartford's physical location is a key asset, as the city is located within 100 miles of both New York and Boston, offering access to over 100 million consumers all within an 8-hour drive. In addition, Hartford is earning a reputation as one of the country’s most wired cities, which has been an important factor in the attraction of information-oriented businesses. Known as the Insurance Capital of the World, Hartford, Connecticut is home to several major insurance firms: Aetna Inc., The Hartford Financial Services Group, The Phoenix Companies, Travelers Property Casualty Corp., MassMutual, CIGNA and The United Health Care Company.

History:
Hartford, Connecticut is located at one end of the Connecticut River. It was first settled in 1623 as a Dutch trading post named the House of Hope. In 1636, a group of English settlers departed from Massachusetts and formed the colony today known as Hartford. The settlers made peace with the local Algonquin Indians and later renamed the city after Hertford, England. The insurance industry was formalized with the creation of the Hartford Fire Insurance Group in 1810. The country’s oldest insurance company, Hartford Insurance Company, still operates in the city to this day.

Tourism:
Hartford offers many historic buildings such as the Old State House, the Mark Twain House and the New England Air Museum, located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Outside fun ranges from watching NASCAR races at the Stafford Motor Speedway to driving along U.S. 91 and viewing some of the region’s old tobacco barns and fields. Returning to the shoreline, the coastal Fairfield region offers a range of outdoor and youthful fun, including the Beardsley Zoo and the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport. New Haven is also the home of the distinguished Yale University and Hammonasset Beach State Park, which provides miles of sunny beaches for residence and visitors alike.
