Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Moving to Connecticut
Congratulations on moving to Connecticut. As you begin the process of packing and locating Connecticut moving companies, why not also learn more about this vibrant state that will soon be your home.

Connecticut is home to sparkling beaches, a growing downtown nightlife, a great arts scene, and is located comfortably between New York City and Boston. Whether you are looking for the picturesque three-bedroom with the white picket fence or the downtown loft, one of Connecticut's counties will have something for you. Connecticut enjoys a temperate climate due to its long coastline on Long Island Sound. This has given the state a strong maritime tradition. Modern Connecticut is also known for its affluent neighborhoods and luxurious real estate.

The English were the first major settlements in the 1630s. Thomas Hooker led a band of followers overland from the Massachusetts Bay Colony and founded what would become the Connecticut Colony. In 1662, the three colonies were merged under a royal charter, making Connecticut a crown colony. This colony was one of the Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Connecticut had ready access to raw materials, which helped to develop a strong manufacturing industry, and financial organizations flourished; first, with insurance companies in Hartford, and later with hedge funds in Fairfield County. This prosperity has helped give Connecticut the highest per capita income, Human Development Index, and median household income in the country.

Connecticut has had a strong economy since the early 19th century when the state, unable to support its population by farming, turned to a variety of nonagricultural pursuits. Shipbuilding and whaling were major industries in the 1840s and 1850s. New London ranks behind only New Bedford and Nantucket, Massachusetts, among U.S. whaling ports. Connecticut has been a leader of the insurance industry since the 1790s. In 2001, Connecticut had the 22nd largest gross state product among the states, totaling $166.2 billion. Only 9 percent of the total was from the public sector, the second-smallest proportion among the states.
