Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Greeley, Colorado

Greeley, Colorado has often been named number one in the nation for income growth. Those moving to Greeley will discover everything you need and more.

History:
Greeley started out as a joint-stock colonization company in 1869 in then Union Colony. Settlers were required to have sufficient funding to survive for one year and had to pledge themselves to temperance, education, co-operation, faith and family and home. Railroads brought the people, supplies, livestock and household items and citizens built tanneries, canneries, stockyards, mills and warehouses. By 1888 some 90,000 acres were under irrigation and schools and learning institutes had started up. The Tribune newspaper nicknamed Greeley “The Athens of the West” on account of the Greek style public buildings. Prohibition was adopted during the years 1916-1933 throughout Amnerica, but in Greeley this lasted through to 1969. Colorado’s first licensed radio station, KFKA opened in Greeley in 1921. After World War 2, the Monfort’s expanded their family farm into an international multi-billion dollar business and by the mid-1960s Monfort of Colorado had the most advanced animal-rearing facilities in the country. The arrival of Highway 85 connected Greeley to Denver and Cheyenne in 1963, opening up Greeley for further expansion and the city has continued to grow and prosper ever since.

Economy:
The progressive City of Greeley has adopted a pro-business stance to its diverse community. It also believes in nurturing those who are already in business, offering a free economic “gardening” program along with a myriad of entrepreneurial initiatives as well. The City provides a first class business environment for those wishing to relocate. Its goal is to break out of the traditional role of city government and to re-invent itself as a freethinking entrepreneur, adopting an innovative, creative and business-friendly environment in the process.

Tourism:
The National Forest near Quaint Town is situated 25 miles north of Greeley and is awe-inspiring, so make sure you visit this spectacular wilderness. Then, check out a bird’s eye view of Greeley at the Greeley Freight Station Museum. It is truly impressive and will fascinate the kids. You can also go fishing, birding, hiking, biking, ice-skating, trailing and swimming. Or, if that is way too energetic, head for the impressive shops and stores or simply enjoy eating out. Add historical tours, museums and agri-tourism for good measure, but be sure to enjoy your time in Greeley.

Universities/Colleges:

Interesting Facts:

  • Although the city was named after Horace Greeley, he only ever visited Greeley once in 1869.
  • Here’s one for the conservationists – “Rattlesnake Kate” killed 140 of these scaly creatures and had their skins made into a dress, shoes, necklace and headband. The dress is still on display at Greeley History Museum.
  • There are 140 full-service restaurants in Greeley.
  • The median resident age in Greeley is 28.5 years, quite a bit younger then than the Colorado median of 34.3 years.
