Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

A Moving Around

Little Rock, Arkansas

The geographical, political and financial hub of Arkansas, Little Rock is at the juncture of the state's two major regions. Today, Little Rock is a vibrant metropolitan area with nationally recognized medical centers and outstanding public services. Unlike other urban areas, it is easy to get around Little Rock by freeway and city byway. Centrally located, the city is only a few hours’ drive from several major cities. Whether you are looking for a career change or simply a change of scenery, Little Rock is a great moving destination.

History:
At the time of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, Arkansas was nearly uninhabited. Once the territory became part of the U.S., however, increasing numbers of Americans were willing to move to the area. The city grew slowly, though remained a lively frontier village for many years. The city was officially chartered in 1831 and reincorporated in 1835. The postwar Reconstruction period in Arkansas was met by financial devastation and political turmoil. Attempts to create a northern-style industrial economy were unsuccessful, largely due to demands placed on the agrarian society. After the Reconstruction period, Little Rock slowly began to widen its economic base, especially in the areas of commerce and industry. The 1880s saw major growth in the state's railroad system, and the city's population soared. During World War I, Little Rock became an army induction and training center with the opening of nearby Camp Pike. In 1957 the world turned its focus to the Arkansas capital when Governor Orval E. Faubus and the Arkansas National Guard forcibly tried to stop the integration of Little Rock Central High School. President Dwight D. Eisenhower responded by sending US troops with orders to implement the integration and protect the students. The 1960s brought sweeping changes to the South, and today's Little Rock has for the most part abandoned the attitudes of the "Old South."

Economy:
As the largest city in a mainly rural and agricultural state, Little Rock is the heart of economic activity in Arkansas. For decades, cotton and then rice, soybeans and other crops were the city’s primary source of income. During the 1950s and 1960s, however, the Arkansas Industrial Development Corporation began an aggressive campaign to attract manufacturers to the state. Although few companies established large operations, hundreds of companies moved in and set up small factories employing fewer than 1,000 people. Revival of downtown Little Rock has fueled its attraction to major corporations in a range of industries, particularly manufacturing, transportation and service. Agriculture maintains a firm hold on the economy of Little Rock and Arkansas as a whole. About one-fourth of all jobs in the state involve agriculture. Soybeans, rice, timber and poultry continue to be the primary agricultural enterprises in the state.

Tourism:
Begin your tour at the lively River Market District featuring restaurants, shops, bars and museums for your enjoyment. Then, visit the Clinton Presidential Center & Park  and the Central Arkansas Nature Center. Next, check out the Arkansas Arts Center, housing one of the most highly praised collections of works on paper in the country. Some of the city’s other historic sites include Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, Historic Arkansas Museum, Old State House Museum, Mount Holly and MacArthur Museum of Military History. Outdoor lovers will not be disappointed with numerous city parks offering running/walking trails, fishing, ball fields and picnic areas. Head over to Pinnacle Mountain State Park. The facility offers a birds-eye view of the city from its summit, and overlooks at the park provide views of the water portion of the Trail of Tears route.  Next, make your way over to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Arkansas, both of which perform at Robinson Center Music Hall. The Arkansas Repertory Theatre and several theaters, comedy clubs, jazz and blues bars, and energetic dance clubs also host entertaining events in Little Rock.
